Vanguard recently got into the no commission on ETFs game, joining Schwab and Fidelity. https://personal.vanguard.com/us/insights/article/commissions-05042010 Info at Schwab http://www.schwab.com/public/schwab...=P-3312891&lvl1=investment_products&lvl2=etfs Info at Fidelity http://personal.fidelity.com/products/trading/What_You_Can_Trade/WYCT_ETFs.shtml I guess every ETF sponsor would love to have their ETFs trade as liquidly as the spiders (SPY) and this is an effort to increase trading volume.
TD Ameritrade has also recently started offering commission free online ETF trades. They currently have the largest list of ETFs from a variety of well-known providers. Here is the complete list on their web site and a different page that lists all brokers and commission-free etfs.
Regarding TD Ameritrade, you must hold the ETFs for 30 days or more. If you don't, they charge commission. There's additional fine print you must agree to.
Of course there will be stips included, I trade FAS/DTO/OIH all day long all the time. Id love to trade ETFs commission free. I assume they do not allow or 2x or 3x ETFs as well (plus never hold 2x or 3x ETFs) overnight as well!
