Collar on SPY. Looking for ideas

  1. Hey folks. I consider myself retail very unsophisticated option trader, beginner level. I used frequently covered calls/cash protected puts in the past in my IRA accounts. I would like to try collars on SPY. Is it possible to achieve 30% account growth or so per year? What are the proven management rules of the collar? My initial thought to buy 6-9 months OTM puts, say 7.5-10% risk (that is periodically rolled up/down and in depending on the circumstances AND sell 30-35 Delta front month calls. I believe the trade entry can be dynamic and not static, depending on the volatility and trend vs consolidation pattern. I hope I will be able to do successful active management of the collar…Any comments from experienced traders would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Without leverage, I think it's hard to achieve 30% annual growth even during the past a few years of bull market. It is going to depend on the how long the next bear is to be even profitable.
