LOL, CNN blows it again, another epic screwup.

Hours after publishing a bombshell report claiming members of the Trump campaign and Trump Organization — including then-candidate Donald Trump and Donald Trump Jr. — had received an email from WikiLeaks providing a decryption key and website address to hacked content, CNN has issued a correction noting that it got the date of the email incorrect.

Below is the correction from the CNN report:

Correction: This story has been corrected to say the date of the email was September 14, 2016, not September 4, 2016. The story also changed the headline and removed a tweet from Donald Trump Jr., who posted a message about WikiLeaks on September 4, 2016.

CNN Communications also tweeted out an explanation:

CNN's initial reporting of the date on an email sent to members of the Trump campaign about Wikileaks documents, which was confirmed by two sources to CNN, was incorrect. We have updated our story to include the correct date, and present the proper context for the timing of email

Per the initial CNN report, Team Trump had received the email on September 4, 2016, indicating that the campaign was being provided access to information that was not yet publicly available. However, subsequent reports from the Washington Post and Wall Street Journalrefuted CNN’s report, stating that the email had actually been sent 10 days later. With it becoming apparent that CNN had a major screwup on its hand, Media Twitter began railing against the network for its erroneous story.

After CNN corrected the story, reporter Manu Raju — one of the report’s authors — took to the air to offer up his own correction. You can watch above, via CNN.

UPDATE 4:25 PM ET: CNN’s Brian Stelter, quoting a CNN spokesperson, noted that Raju will not face any disciplinary action over the botched report because the error came from his source

Just saw this. And the left continues to wonder how folks on the right don't trust these news organizations. What a laugh riot!

Propagandists are not reporters. Clearly they don't do a serious due diligence check like real reporters and editors would have done in the past.

CNN is not a credible news source. Since Jeff Zucker has taken over, they have regressed to a left-wing, fake news tabloid. CNN caters to the same audience as Media Matters.

  6. Well then no one here needs to be watching cnn because ET politics section already gets livestream from media matters.

Whoa, a news agency offering a correction with an apology?... It's almost as if they're a legitimate source that upholds a standard.
