Chiropractor Goes Viral On TikTok After Claiming '99% Of My Profession' Is Actually A Scam
Chiropractor Trevor Zierke—@trevorzierke_dc on TikTok—took the opportunity to talk about the realities of his field.

We all know that there are things that we could do at our places of work that will guarantee that we will lose our jobs.

But when there's something unethical happening in the workplace, it's worth breaking the silence.

That was exactly the decision chiropractor Trevor Zierke, @trevorzierke_dc on TikTok, made when a popular trend on the app gave him the ample opportunity to talk about the realities of his field.

@DebtCollective asked a question in June that has been a trend on TikTok ever since:

"What's a scam that's become so normalized that we don't even realize it's a scam anymore?"
Zierke stitched the video and swiftly replied:

    "Literally 99% of my profession."
Zierke went on to explain seeking out a chiropractor had become an over-popularized solution, simply because potential patients were being told all of their ailments could be solved with realignments and massages.

Zierke gave examples of a few common claims he has seen:

"Your spine is misaligned, and we can put it back in place.""You have back pain, because your hips are off-center.""Chiropractor adjustments take tensions off the nerves because that tension on your nerves is causing all of your health problems.""I could go on and on and on, and almost all of these are not true."

After TikTok was surprised by the video, Zierke clarified his thoughts in a second video:

"I want to make clear that I am not saying that all chiropractors are a scam. Given that I myself am a chiropractor, that would not make much sense.""But more so what I was getting at in that video is that most people who go to a chiropractor are told by chiropractors why they need to come in, and those reasons are either overblown or are just flat-out lies proven wrong by research.""If you're seeing a chiropractor who is telling you that you need to come in for one of these [examples from the previous video] reasons, that's where I believe it's a scam.""None of these things are either what's causing your pain or can even be fixed by a chiropractor.""I just don't want people in pain to be manipulated by chiropractors into coming in to see them, when really they don't need to."

Yep. I can think of one in my family and a neighbour who attended specific chiropractors for many years and it never seemed to help however on changing to a different one due to vacation etc., there was a sudden improvement. They can help if the patient is fortunate but one would think that they would stop flogging a dead horse and be honest instead of just taking the money if no progress is forthcoming.

Speaking of flogging, I'm around again but not doing any more politics :) I'm staying healthy.

  3. Welcome back. But I don't know, man, easier said that done:

  4. I have been to three different bone crackers over the years and found little to no benefit. Perhaps it's like finding a good masseuse. I get much more relief from a good massage but finding a good one was a challenge. In addition, I am now trying something new at Stretch Labs. Only one session so far, so we'll see how it goes. I knew my hamstrings were tight, but this one session really highlighted just how tight they are.

I think the chiropractor debate is similar to the TA debate. The approach is just too generic.

Chiropractice may help some things and not others. It may also depend on the practitioner. Individual patents' response can be different too. Just too many variables.

Here is a more specific question: Could a very good chiropractor help me with my sciatic pain? Maybe, maybe not, pudding, tasting it. Even if he helped Joe the same treatment may not work for Jim. It definitely doesn't help with hair growth.

As long as they don't do harm (quite possible to do so) they can be beneficial just like placebo is.

    TL;DR: Question is too generic.

  6. Here's my story and I am sticking to it.

Right before the start of my first day at high school, I bent over to pet our cat who was on the floor. Bad idea. My neck completely freaked out and I became frozen with a lot of pain. Mom called the doc. Four days later, yes 4 days I got in to see the doctor. He was a chiro doc. I had spent the last 4 days in miserable pain to say the least. Within minutes after popping the heck out of my neck/back this chiro doc had me out of pain. The next day I went to high school for the first time.

First and last time I ever needed a chiro doc. Sometimes they come in handy.

  7. Consider yourself lucky. The neck manipulation that chiropractors do is dangerous and hardly worth the risk.

  8. Wow, I didn't know that. I must be lucky then. I wonder how I would of got my neck back to normal though at the time. Four days was long enough. :(
