I have to wonder a little if the recent CCP purge, Covid, Turkey vs Greece thing plus the election is sufficient for them to make a move on Taiwan.
China needs stop getting their vagina all dry and chapped over Taiwan still after almost 80 years..... They got billions of people and all that land and they are like a pshycho bitch ex girlfriend over the one that got away in Taiwan... Shows you how mentally unstable China is to still obsess over this and be so fucking butthurt which means it is all jealousy how Taiwan because a new Dragon of Asia when China was running over students with tanks. China will always have a 3rd world approach to economy even if they are so large and wealthy but it is mainly from manufcaturing simply done on a world scale. They are trying to move forward with technology but does not mean shit when the government controls and censors all internet activity. Also the technology they produce is either U.S. and foreign companies locating production there and them stealing it or few industrious companies barely being allowed to function. The attitidue to Taiwan symbolizes how archaic their economic system is...if the world was smart they would realize they could get the same low production costs and better political economic stability in several Latin American countries and do away with cow towing to China.
Indeed. Unfortunately they are following their domino strategy which includes many countries. And of course they just finalized their acquisition of Hong Kong so that is not likely to dampen their efforts. Along with the fact that their military is getting five star ratings on TripAdvisor these days. They have a hard on for Australian iron ore though that just will not go away but the Aussies are being difficult and Trumpian these days. So the Chinese are just biding their time until the election in the U.S. is over. If Biden wins their America problem is fixed and the Aussies and the Taiwanese will be out there all alone. So they have a plan. Some of it is working out pretty well for them too. The wildcard, yet to come, if Trump should be elected is that we will free up Japan from surrender treaties that keep the Japanese from scaling up their military beyond just defensive capability. And if Biden is elected they will probably just declare their right to do that anyway. The last thing the Chinese want is an arms race in the area with the Japanese. Bad, bad blood there with many scores to settle. Obviously, Rocket Man's lobbing missiles into Japanese waters exacerbates that too. We treaty obligations that says we will protect them in return for their not over-developing their military - except we let NK lob missiles into their waters. Might have to let the Japanese horse out of the barn. Yes, it could lead to another world war but so does just letting China's regional takeover go unopposed. China and Russia and Iran all play on the same team too so they have a large bench.
I think you will find that both Trump and Biden take the same historical U.S. approach to China with all talk. Trump talked a good game with the tariffs but we all know Americans paid for them and China issued tax breaks to exporters to offset them for the most part and Trump gave in after China made some false promises. Same has happened with the Dems in the past so not picking on Trump but those that think he did something different. Trump has huge clothing line business manufactured in China and other production based there so in the end he will not do anything to hurt that, just put on a dog and pony show. The fact and hard truth is U.S. politics bends over no matter what bullshit they spew to get elected and will cater to them just like the NBA and Disney do.... because that is where the money is now. China is the only 3rd world manufacturer that has power because we never would cowtow to Guatemala or Malaysia where other U.S. manufacturers have production. It is a unique situation.
Okay well, Trump just shipped 66 new F-16's to Taiwan which may or may not confirm your statement that Trump is all talk. I suppose one could argue that he is speaking a language that the Chinese understand. More arms and offensive missiles to Japan will be more talk too. If Trump gets a second term he will continue to weaken China at the UN too which is their little playground to collude with America haters.
Yeah well you need to not ignore what Dems have done to as we have seen that move before: <2015> The Obama administration formally notified Congress on Wednesday of a $1.83-billion arms sale package for Taiwan, including two frigates, anti-tank missiles, amphibious assault vehicles and other equipment, drawing an angry response from China. "“Our longstanding policy on arms sales to Taiwan has been consistent across six different U.S. administrations,” a National Security Council spokesman, Myles Caggins, said." Here is the proof https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_US_arms_sales_to_Taiwan Trump did not come up with a new playbook. It is called appeasing and kissing Taiwan's ass enough to flex some muscle and still cowtowing a bit to china so we play both ends.... Trump is not doing anything new, he is just convincing his base he is because they do not dive into the history or the facts.
Yes, it is an escalating situation developing over many years and such situations do come to a head at some point as in Hong Kong. Whether republican or democrat it will take someone who is up on his feet and able to alpha as needed. Not feeling as good about Joe in that role as you are. And yes again there has been some giving away of the shop in the past just to avoid inevitable conflict with some countries. See the Iran Deal and the cut and run in Iraq under Obama for more on that.
It should be noted that I have not made any political statement of support on this issue except to say whatever Joe will do or Trump has done is the same and therefore it is more hand waving in my opinion to say Trump has been tough and Biden will be soft. If Biden is elected the same approach will continue.. it is just window dressing each side is throwing out that they each have come up with some new fangled approach. So neither is expressing a new approach. As for Hong Kong, the world will move away from it as a financial center with China interference and high costs of operations and with the existence and growth of Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and even Taipei. The best way to handle a bitchy ex girlfriend who demands attention and makes a scene is to simply get involved with someone else and stop giving them any stage time. No one is going to change Chinese politics from the outside no matter what people say about UN and WHO and other places they pretend to challenge China. While we play stupid games with China, China is supporting growth in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East and we just assume those areas will come to us.....not true. simply redirect economic policies elsewhere and make China feel like it needs to behave or risk being marginalized over a generation just like China did to Japan when we got fed up with Japanese restrictive trade practices.
Yes and no. The main approach must be as you have suggested- isolating China and looking elsewhere. The girlfriend analogy works if the girlfriend is not doing any damage even if you ignore her. But This is not true of the bitch China. Although the primary approach should be through economic measures, they nevertheless need to be actively contained in the areas where they are misbehaving, such as espionage, and south sea expansion, and continued expansion of control of the UN- until recent setbacks as a result of specific action against them. We also need to be upgrading our military continuously.
