Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin urged the U.S. at a daily briefing to “stop all forms of official exchanges with Taiwan, so as to avoid serious damage to China-U.S. relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.” More..... https://www.marketwatch.com/story/c...nt=cx_1&cx_artPos=1&mod=home-page-cx#cxrecs_s
It is a clear error to mess with the 50 year or so status quo regarding Taiwan. Taiwan does not have international recognition or a seat in the United Nations and only a country or two supports the US position. Further, according to an article in Wikipedia, most Taiwanese prefer to maintain the status quo. The underlying principal to consider is to avoid interferring with the known primary interests of another party. China, a global economic and military power, has long stated that Taiwan, located in the South China sea, falls under their primary sphere of influence. If the US is looking for a fight, getting closer to Taiwan is a great way to start one. Given that China has allies and almost all other countries do not recognize Taiwan, it is a fight the US would be destined to lose, just like we did in Vietnam and North Korea. As a side note, there may be some Taiwan related gaming going on related to the upcoming US elections, but it is a unjustified and dangerous game. Strong US relations with China helps to provide international and economic stability, something we all should be able to relate to, including Trump.
Taiwan is a separate country....China won the war and is still bitching about a small Island created out of the war because they are not communists... China is the biggest bully and pussy at the same time. They need to grow a pair of pork bun sized balls already and let it go. Recognize Taiwan as a country and move on..stop being jealous of your younger brother and be a man.
China. That would be the country that just brought the entire world down, and they are saying that U.S. might cause serious damage to relations? They might want to save that tripe for Joe Biden to see if he gets elected. He is the only idiot I know who is worried about offending China these days.
Let’s put the shoe on the other foot and use the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 as a brief case study. Cuba was a country that came under the control of Communists and developed diplomatic relations with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. All they wanted to do was put a few ballistic missiles near US terrority to ensure the sovereignty of Cuba and to reach parity with US capabilities in regards to US ballistic missiles in Turkey. The US lost their shit are were willing to risk a nuclear war over these missiles, which is kind of ironic, if you ask me. Ironic on several levels when you add Taiwan to the discussions. China seems to be showing relative restraint, perhaps because they value their relationship with the US. It may be solely for economic reasons or they may feel a military solution would have an ambiguous outcome. However, realize this is not the backward China that helped defeat us in Vietnam and North Korea. China has a huge industrial base now, a fairly modern military, an ally that alone could make our lives not worth living if they wanted to, and superior numbers. The US has insufficient diplomatic standing or legal basis in International law to interfere with the established interests of China, in my opinion. Again, Taiwan is not officially recognized as a separate county under international law, if I’m understanding things correctly. Let’s focus on taling care of our hemisphere first. For that matter, let’s fix the many broken things in the US instead of creating another problem for us. China will be reunited with Taiwan sooner or later. Nothing we can realistically do about that. Maintaining the status quo for as long as possible is by far the best option for all.
Turning a blind eye to China's claims whether it be Taiwan or South China Sea is allowing China to bully and take incremental steps to territorial takeovers. Philippines next, then Africa, maybe Indonesia and other Asian neighbours. The CCP would be possibly the most dishonest global regime, I admire Trump for confronting them because no one else has the balls. If it weren't for Trump, Europe and even Australia would continue to kow tow to this party who have bribery and trickery down to the finest art.
If Biden is elected it will be sooner. Even though it will not happen in his term, progress will be made. If Trump is elected. The Chinese will lose ground, as they are already.
