The Race For Exascale Supercomputers It seems China already has developed Exascale supercomputer systems, even two of them: https://www.nextplatform.com/2021/10/26/china-has-already-reached-exascale-on-two-separate-systems/ And a German news article referencing the above link: https://www.heise.de/news/Supercomputer-China-wohl-schon-im-Exaflops-Bereich-6233415.html The above news articles say that it's expected that in the upcoming Top500 list of Supercomputers (due in November), the new Chinese Supercomputers will be listet as #1 and #2. https://www.top500.org/

I just don't believe these kind of semi-conspiracy stories. Sure the military has unlimited amount of money to spend, Oak Ridge, Livermore, Los Alamos are 3 labs to watch. If IBM and HP didn't punch in, all military has is old generation of computers.
Judging from x86 clones ripped of from VIA licensing, I doubt they could be leading in the area of supercomputing. Just remember that when the Soviet Union fell, we found out that much of the military technology we speculated on was actually garbage. Unless they can make a tank acquire and hit a target while on the run or implement an electromagnetic catapult on a carrier, they are just an iPhone factory.
