Desire for more local police: A 2019 Gallup poll found that 68% of residents in Chicago's "fragile community" wanted more police presence.

  5. This is not a good idea. Crime is no worse or better in Chicago that it has been for years. Crime should be dramatically worse before troops are brought in. The problem is in the courts, not lack of arrests. It is the legal system itself that needs to be put in its place. That and city legislatiors decriminalization efforts which end up putting repeat offenders back on the street.

"No cash bail" is a major problems in cities with Democratic George-Soros funded D.A.'s. Criminal are just immediately released to walk the streets and commit more crimes -- this includes violent criminals. Durham, N.C. has significant problems with this issue -- as well as many other U.S. cities.

It would be a nightmare for the National Guard to occupy Chicago crime heavy neighborhoods unless Trump plans to put them in the low crime areas that have been heavily visited by ICE agents like in the Magnificent mile area of the Trump International Hotel or the location of our country top hospitals.

My most recent visit to the Chicago area, walking in the above mentioned areas along the Magnificent mile have been very nice, quiet and calm...regardless of the time of day (a.m. and p.m.) although the business in those areas have slowed considerably considering there are no longer long waiting lines to enter some of the popular businesses.

I could actually walk down the Michigan Avenue at it's most busy time without bumping shoulders with someone.

Trump would need to be creative a false scenario that crime is rising in Chicago downtown considering there's more data from the FBI, DOJ, local law enforcement in comparison to Washington D.C. that crime is lower (declining) in Chicago by 22% so far here in 2025.

We already know the playbook Trump will use as an excuse as he did in Washington D.C.

My last most recent visit to the Trump hotel was to pick up some items left behind when I moved my mother out of her residential condominium from the Trump hotel to another residential condominium closer to Northwestern Hospital but overlooking Lake Michigan.

I had never seen the Hotel like that...very few people in the lobby and very few people in the waiting areas.

In fact, the waiting areas were completely empty, something I had never seen before since that Hotel had open it's doors. My mom states it's directly related to the presence of ICE agents driving around along Michigan Avenue, walking around near the Trump Hotel looking for undocumented immigrants working in the area.

I did not see any Chicago Police mingling with ICE agents at the fitness center my kids have a membership whenever we're in the states although I did give a smart ass commentary to ICE agents staring at my teenagers as we stood near the front desk to renew membership.

I said...their grandfather is full Native American Lakota...we were first on this land although not citizens until 1924.

They then stared at the Airborne Ranger tattoos on my arm while a smirking off duty Chicago policeman was sitting nearby after finishing a workout whom I personally know very well. There's an obvious rivalry like atmosphere between ICE agents and Chicago police in the same areas of Chicago...the body language from the Chicago police is not approving of the presence of ICE agents in Chicago.

He then said to me what happened to your knee?

My daughter who was nearest to the ICE agent and about 2 inches taller than the agent...she said she did a slap shot in a hockey game, her brother ducked and my Dad's knee did not and it then ricochet into the goal.

The Chicago area is home to about +300 thousands U.S. military veterans. The Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs works closely with the VA veterans community who serves every Chicago neighborhood. We also have the Navy's largest boot camp...it's not unusual to see sailors touring the neighborhoods of Chicago or visiting the Museums.

Trump would need to create false crime info about Pilsen and Little Village (Mexican-American culture), Chinatown for Chinese heritage, Greektown and Lincoln Square for Greek and German roots respectively, Bronzeville as a historic hub of African American culture, or Little Italy for ICE agents to harass Chicagoan immigrants with support of any National Guard.

I know a lot of U.S. military veterans who live in the Little Village.

I can visualize Trump wanting to put National Guard on the Magnificent mile (Michigan Avenue) or in the Little Village and Pilsen area because of ICE agent enforcement in those areas.

Those are my favorite places when I grew up as a teenager in the area and today when I visit Chicago with my kids...it's the Pilsen, Little Village and Little Italy communities.

Photos below is while standing outside of the front lobby doors of the Trump Hotel.

  9. Unacceptable isn't the same as out of control. The military should only be brought in during a time of complete lawlessness where martial law is necessary. Using the military for policing is a mistake. It's not what they are trained for. Again, the crime problem is Chicago and other cities is a direct result of decriminalization efforts by local and state legislation, and judges legislating from the bench. Fixing that will be difficult. Sending in troops is just another sideshow and at best is temporary, at worst becomes a standard leading to living under a completely militarized police force.
