Chart bug or on purpose that awful?

    Hi there,

I switched my broker to IB and was setting it up to my needs the last weeks. Was not my first choice but the product variety is what convinced me. What I can't figure out and lets me in a very suspicious impression, is the charting.

First two pictures show the charting I often get. Flawed and jagged with cyan candles which can't be controller or recolored by preferences. One can't change the outline color. Sometime out of nowhere the outline gets red and I need to refresh the chart. The charts need "hours" to open...
The last picture show how I would be "ok" with the charting.

I must say, that's my impression, TWS has the worst charting in the industry. Its extrem outdated, sluggish and buggy. I was playing around with motive wave where I consider the charting to be great but the interface is too cluttered. Also the API 100 data package restriction is unfavorably..Anyway

Anyone can explain me how I can disable that cyan candle mode there?

True -- IB's charting is not fancy, and *is* cludgy. Granted.

But that cyan candle is telling you something. It is not a bug. An illiquid instrument, "free" data gaps, bid-ask outside of norms -- could be a number of things. Sit down with the ChartTrader webinar and sit through it -- you will pick up lots of pointers.

Well is there a way to color that cyan candles?

What about the sluggish slow response. Sometimes TWS needs more than a MINUTE to show the charts only by just switching time frame. Any fix or mod in the setting files there?

Again: that cyan color is TWS telling you something. Look it up. Be an informed chart user.

Again: TWS is cludgy anyway, but the kind of sluggishness you describe is commonly a computer issue cured by decreasing video demand, reserving more computer power to TWS, decreasing cuteness factors at the benefit of video-rendering or GPU availability -- stuff particular to your computer. You'll need to diagnose your computer first, but again: sit down and watch the IB webinar on TWS set-ups and on charting.

You are looking for a short-cut to a time-consuming search. Don't do it.

  5. Hey Mike, the only thing worse than IB's charting is their portfolio risk visualization. It defaults to like 5 sigmas and all risk curves are vertical lines. I feel your pain.

Jez. I appreciate your attitude to help but could you just help me to find out if its recolor-able? Just yes or no would be enough. (maybe I just want a different color not dismiss the function?)

The other thing. I'm been in the IT/Gaming Industry as Technician for decades. Quiet likely have the most stellar workstation you ever seen. It works flawless with rendering software rendering huge animation so should handle win98 type of charting application with overproportionate ease. That not the fault of my station here. Just buggy coding...

  7. I clear IB but don't use their charting. You can't right click and change color? Contact Def on this board as he works for IB.

Well I know I can recolor every candle but for sure I would rather like to recolor the default color for these data gap candles. Motivewave got a discount going on. Maybe I give it a second try as TWS is making me go nuts. Yesterday I was setting up two new layout tabs. After TWS went sluggish and laggy again I restarted this garbage platform to find out that the hour work on those new layouts was not saved....GRRR

    Yeah it's a bug

Oh it is... After a long chat session with the support we found out that the TWS settings were corrupted and TWS also got a bug if one activate top/bottom chart padding/clipping.

The cyan color is now the hover color of the candle how it supposed to be by the devs even with changed default candle colors.
