So you are shocked people are fleeing overpriced cities for more suburban and rural living? You can buy a large house in the suburbs of Houston for what an apartment costs you in NYC. Also the states listed on the left are the most densely populated in the country. People want more space. I find it funny people turning it into a politicial argument because the real indication is blue voters are moving into red states... people move for personal reasons mostly not because they don't like thier Senator.
It's only because real estate prices, is it? Why don't we see more folks moving to New Mexico? Could probably get a HUGE house there for half of what you could in Florida or Texas.
People dont want to move in the middle of nowhere.. otherwise Minnesota and Idaho would have hundreds of thousands of people. People want to be near cities, entertainment, airports, action and life. New Mexico is mostly empty desert spaces and Wile E. Coyote scenery. Florida has beaches on both coasts and major airports and cities and Texas has similar but Houston and Orlando suburbs are 1/3 the cost of LA and NY.
I'll mention that it appears that as people concentrate in an area they turn the area "blue". I've seen it myself in Colorado, and of course y'all have seen it in the south. There's an easy explanation for this: people generally favor socialistic policies. when you poll them about the specifics. But ask them about "socialism" in general and, well, they oppose that, "hey, we're Americans, we're not socialists!"
Well, I appreciate you clarifying what people are all looking for! Arizona, Utah, Idaho - all gainers. But not middle of nowhere. Must be the great beaches! But Cali, bad beaches. Oh wait, its the real estate when that works, and beaches and the middle of nowhere when that works.
