Carry, CHF/USD and IB

  1. I'm fairly new to FX, and use Interactive Brokers. I was wondering if a short CHF/USD (considering its current strength) cash position would be a positive carry trade, as i would be shorting a currency that yields, what 1.75%?, and buying one that yields, what 4%? And, if so, does IB somehow obviate or reduce this carry? Educate me.

Yes, the Swap is credited to you then. But you need to look at IB website how much is it reduced. It depends on each broker, so Swaps are different everywhere. Just search on their site.

Since Oct 3rd the trade was to do the opposite.

I'd wait for a setup/trigger to signal a possible reversal before putting a carry trade on.

U.S. Dollar typically fades into year end, so it might (?) come back into the new year.
