Carl Icahn Had An Atrocious Third Quarter (Forbes) Activist investor Carl Icahn had an abysmal third quarter. Icahn Enterprises IEP 0.0% reported a net loss of $714 million or $3.14 per LP unit, compared to a net loss of $49 million or 24 cents per LP unit in the third quarter of last year. The firm’s adjusted EBITDA was a loss of $550 million, compared to a loss of $121 million in last year’s third quarter and a gain of $695 million in the second quarter. Hedge fund takes a bite out of Icahn Enterprises: In a recent report, Jefferies analysts attributed the vast majority of the year-over-year decline to losses sustained in the the investment firm, which detracted $520 million from the firm’s adjusted EBITDA. That’s compared to a detraction of $328 million in the year-ago quarter.
%% Sounds bad, dealM; but he has done so well/ for so many decades/most likely still up average 50% annual average. But thats just a guess. Mr Ichan had the hedge fund that / rather than a gate/which could have made a lot of sense for all/got the money from another account for redemption; rather than sell@ a big loss. Real wise idea when right + can afford that plan...………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Greedy old fart should have retired long ago and been enjoying his money, and giving back, instead of trying to make even more. Same goes for Buffet, he is the greediest of the lot.
Never liked Ichan since the Herbalife saga, but I read that Buffet gives away a lot to charity and intends to give away most of his wealth before he dies.
Wrong about Buffett. His home, built prior to 1960 worth about $700K. How many billionaires live in a home worth less than $1 million ? He's already agreed to give away much of his fortune to the Bill & Malinda Gates Foundation. He continues to do it because he loves it! NOT about wanting more money.
%% Good giving points. And I like the way mr Ichan tended to announce a position/plenty of time for many to profit on it/back in the days when I traded/invested in single stocks. He made a good move also out of NY/taxes way to high...……………………………………………………………………………………………………..
He is a greedy miser then, and it is very easy to give away all your fortune after you are dead. Giving away 99% while you are still alive is another matter.
No idea... But it's all relative. I could happily retire by the sun and never work again with the equivalent of some trader's stop loss.
