I lost about 2500 the other day saying I don't have enough buying power. I'm trying to sell my stocks though. I was reading through and it says they could liquidate my assets to cover my margin I don't understand why I cannot just sell them. I got a signal that the stock will increase monday so I'm not upset though I will need to be able to sell them eventually no matter what the worth is? Does anyone seem to understand whats going on with my account?

    Are you on portfolio margin?

Selling this stock may result in portfolio margin going up if you have short positions in correlated assets.

This might have something to do with it, but you might want to ask the broker.

You could always call your broker on the telephone and ask them on Tuesday.

  6. The red lines in your screen shot read "<qty> TO OPEN". In other words: you do not have a position and are trying to get short. If you don't have enough margin to handle this position then the broker will reject that order.

  7. Today, May 31st, is a trading holiday in the US. The stock price will not change. You'll have to wait until Tuesday.

    In general,
I don't recommend calling the broker as it shortens one's life.

But some brokers do provide good service.
So it is fine to call them for assistance.
