I have opened an account with interactive brokers recently and currently have no money in the account.

I have set the reqMarketDataType to 3 when requesting realtime data but can't figure out why I'm not able to get delayed data. I haven't subscribed to any realtime data and have read that I should be getting delayed data in this case.

I've tried to use the API for a range of different exchanges but keep on getting the following error messages:

Error. Id: 3008, Code: 162, Msg: Historical Market Data Service error message:No market data permissions for NYSE STK
Error. Id: 3008, Code: 420, Msg: Invalid Real-time Query:No market data permissions for NYSE STK

    What am I doing wrong?

  2. Use their customer service chat.

It doesn't work with the API, you need to subscribe.

I read that you need a minimum equity of 2000 usd to subscribe. Is this still the case or am I about to put 10 or 20 usd into my account and still subscribe?

Why not just try from Account Management?

First I'd have to transfer money into my account which would be an issue. I live in South Africa so it would most likely take quite a while to do the transfer from my bank.

I'm also experiencing issues with IBs online portal. When I click a link/button on the manage account page it usually asks me to sign in and takes me back to the same page.

You wouldn't happen to know off hand if it's worth going through the hassle of trying to transfer a bit of money just to subscribe for a few months (not the full 2000 usd)?

I have no clue, never had less than 25k in an usable account. Make sure you don't have mobile PIN generator active or you might also try to call their toll-free line. Free from Skype last I tried.
