  1. Hi! Looking to practice some trading techniques before putting real money in. Ideally with live quotes and on demand options. Any suggestions?
Have looked into it a bit and haven’t found great info.ThinkOrSwim seems to be the most recommended, but I'm not sure if it's available to Canadians. Also do I need a TD account to use it? I heard that Canadians can't get an account anymore.
Any advice would really help as I’m seeing a lot of contradicting things online and it seems as tho things keep constantly changing for us Canadians.

Thinkorswim is available through TD Direct investing. But it’s only available on margin accounts and only for U.S stocks and believe 10k USD minimum(could be wrong). The 9.99 USD commission is just ridiculous thiugh(U.S users through TD Ameriprise or Schwab or whoever it is now pay way less than that).

Think you can get it down to 7.99 with 150+ trades a quarter.

Years and years ago I made a paper money account through TD Direct Investing TOS somehow. Not sure if it’s still an available feature. Had Delayed data though.

Finding free live quotes with no deposit is going to be tricky unless you just give a trading software a go and subscribe to some sort of data package.

TradingView may be a start. Not sure what they have for the options end.

Personally use Amibroker and end of day data and just crunch my trades in the evening and place my orders in the evening or morning.

Remember, no trading platform has some magical tools that will make you profitable.

I personally think IB (Interactive Brokers) is best for us as a broker. Low commissions, low margin rates, broadest market access, highest borrow availability inventory, reasonably priced near real time data, APIs are a few reasons why I'm using them.

    Good luck!

yeah many people focus on user interface instead of pricing & functionality for which platform they should use

  5. Hello. I solved this problem after all. Who seeks will always find. I solved the problem through this service ThinkOrSwim Realtime for Canada, they give their account for rent, and you can use it for technical analysis and screening of stocks.
