That's the bottom line here we know who the man is and he's putting on a show for his clueless supporters. If you want to tax yourself go ahead go the tariff route that worked really well in the Great Depression. Don't confuse politicians trying to appease him with what Canadians actually support.

Could use a better title to your thread. Saying you (they) don't give a F- then creating a thread about it seems, how shall I say, incongruous. Canada and Mexico are major trade partners with the US that provides massive economic strength for all and mutual security related benefits. Trump and certain US media outlets have been sloppy in the language they've used regarding Canadian political leadership and the Canadian people. Fundamentally, a duly elected or appointed representative reflects the will of a country, thus any attacks on that person are an attack upon the country at large. Differences in political philosophies between the countries should be irrelevant. A politician's rhetoric, especially around elections for their foreign counterpart, could be perceived as an attempt to influence that countries election. This is a very dangerous and divisive game, although in practice, has been played way too often in recent history. Geopolitical relationships are very sensitive to changes in the status quo. Any such changes contemplated must be given deep, serious thought with benefits weighed against risks. Overall public popular opinion of a trade partner is a critical consideration as sentiment can reduce demand for goods and services, not even considering the effects of new tariffs. I believe there are several issues that will be addressed: 1. NATO obligations regarding military spending as a percentage of GDP. 2. Border security practices. 3. Selective protectionism, in its various forms. 4. Rule of law as applied to trade disputes and other cross border business dealings. The United States, Canada, and Mexico have benefitted in many ways with the long standing system in place. This does not mean that certain adjustments are not in order. Bottom line, there is great political pressure upon all the mentioned trade partners to maintain, perhaps improve, upon trade relations that have benefitted us for so long, in many ways. Edit: PS, Said another way, insults gain nothing, but can be counterproductive. Lower public opinion against a trade partner can mean reduced trade.
the orange man made a new treaty in his first term, now he keeps pushing it. canada and mexico need to put up a fight.
Trump's a nut. Seriously, Americans really should be worried about what he'll inflict on you the next few years. Canadians not so much just a lot of noise down south that ultimately goes nowhere because corporate America loves Canada and well educated Canadians ( like my daughter who is easily in the top tax bracket in your country ).
Trump has a high obesity rating but he's not morbidly obese as some Democrats have stated. Thus, he would have more important things to do than be stupid enough to be standing on top of Mountains in Canada or on top of mountains in any other country due to the following reasons related to his high obesity rating: High-altitude illnesses acute mountain sickness hypoxic pulmonary hypertension chronic mountain sickness Any of the above will make a person severely ill or kill them if untreated. A pressurized airplane is only suitable for people like that if they plan to travel to another country. Yet, some obese people still have problems after flying overseas. That may explain why France's President (Macron) handshake caught Trump off-guard...a small guy like Macron seemed unusually strong to Trump. Trump is unable to determine why the small guy is so damn strong but they then whisper to each other during their awkward handshake. Trump whispers to Macron - I plan to tariff your ass Macron whispers to Trump - I will feed you to the peasants and the leftovers to my wife's dogs. Trump whispers to Macron - I will grab your wife's pussy and maybe rape her too. Macron whispers to Trump - Keep your hands off my wife By the way, Macron is well-known for using handshakes to test a rumor about someone's strength. P.S. Wrong thread but I will leave it here. wrbtrader
Tariffs are being prepared dollar for dollar with anything Trump does. Just like term one, this all played out and there was no trade war win for Americans. Tariffs on Canadian lumber are instructive on likely results. Traders might want to note that Canadian lumber stocks did very well in the next few years but it did hurt some American construction projects. This time is different ? Seems doubtful unless you want to weather a deep recession for years trying to win a pointless trade war. Many goods from Canada are CHEAPER than from elsewhere with lower shipping costs using existing pipelines, railroads, and trucking lines. Canada is not a poor country we can last for many years in such a trade war and our resolve tends to be stronger then Americans.
The bottom line here is that NO ONE gives a fuck about Canada. Literally, no one in the world. The US is expected to have a GDP of $25.43 trillion in 2024 Canada is expected to have a GDP of $2.16 trillion in 2024.
And like many things in the world you are wrong. The US has 9x the population of Canada so the GDP figures are hardly newsworthy like you think they are. There isn't a global company in the world that would say the US has a higher GDP per capita so we'll just not sell anything in Canada. Or recruit Canadians for the best roles in our companies. You are too ignorant to realize what is really going on in the world ( Trump may be too but that's too broad a topic to address ).
Just for reference: US GDP per Capita 2023: $85,370 Canada GDP per Capita 2023: $54,870 Of course! Global companies are just sitting around, meticulously calculating GDP per capita before deciding where to sell their products. It's not like they care about, you know, actual market size or the number of potential customers. Silly me, thinking profit mattered! Your argument is like a house of cards built on a foundation of Jell-O during an earthquake. It's a wobbly, incoherent mess that collapses under the slightest scrutiny. You might want to invest in some basic economics textbooks before your next foray into the world of online debates. Or, you know, just stick to commenting on cat videos. It seems more your speed.
