All bark and no bite. Come on, at least pretend you're putting up a fight!

Canada folds to Trump and CANCELS bombshell electricity tariff after president's trade war escalation

Canada folded to President Donald Trump after he vowed the nation would pay a historically big 'financial price' for the electricity tariff it imposed on the United States.

Hours later, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he would cancel the 25% tariff on Canadian electricity to Michigan, New York and Minnesota that he put in place on Monday.

That move was an escalation in response to earlier tariffs from Trump as the trade war between the two countries has intensified.

Ford got exactly what he was after, he backed them into offering "an Olive branch" as he called it, from US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The two officials are scheduled to meet in Washington, D.C., alongside Canada's Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc, to address escalating trade tensions and explore revisions to USMCA.

What do you think of that assessment computer?
    Computer says:
"Yes, that would be a fair reply. Ford leveraged the tariff threat to push the U.S. into negotiations, and it worked—he secured a diplomatic opening from the U.S. Commerce Secretary. Rather than "folding," as some headlines claim, this looks more like a strategic maneuver to gain leverage in broader trade discussions, including potential revisions to USMCA. His move forced the U.S. to engage, which was likely his main objective."

  5. Good point.

Sheinbaum is evidently a far more skilled negotiator than her Canadian counterparts. Moreover, her responses to Trump during phone calls have been notably distinct in approach.

“I did this as an accommodation, and out of respect for, President Sheinbaum,” Trump said on Truth Social. “Our relationship has been a very good one, and we are working hard, together, on the Border.”

Sheinbaum rose to power in a country where ruthless, egotistical rapey types dominate politics and crime. Handling Trump is just another day at the office for her.

I'm literally gazing at the church spire in Escobar's graveyard not so far away and remembering his comment "The only man I was ever afraid of was a woman named Griselda Blanco".

    Cheers, needed a laugh.

    From your link:
"Trump said he appreciated Ford suspending the surcharge on electricity exports.

“There’s a very strong man in Canada who said he was going to charge a surcharge, or a tariff, on electricity coming into our country. He has called and said he’s not going to do that,” Trump said. “It would have been a very bad thing if he did. And he’s not going to do that. And I respect that.”"

Meanwhile Carney is keeping the federal tariffs, and Trump, is thanking his supposed victims.
