Thats basically what we have right now . Capitalism is were you have winners and lowers which this country has thrived on. But now we also have a govt who's trying to dictate we'll have few to no losers(think oil, airlines and trillions of loans to businesses) with future money they don't have. It looks like they've made there choice to take care of the people and thats fine. But that also means taxes will have be raised big time like other socialist country's.

  2. This is much less binary than you imagine it to be. A well-regulated capitalist economy is still free-market capitalism, even if and when governments assist in various forms. Put differently, you can't have free-market capitalism without regulation.

Now, there is a debate to be had about the extent to which governments should intervene. The deals given to the airlines, for example, show a government entirely unable to make a good deal even when they have all the negotiating upside (how good to have a "master deal-maker" in the WH...).

Just keep piling it on let the next generation pay the price.
It can’t end well but keep kicking the can down the road and hope it can last a few decades more.

most ‘capitalist’ systems as they mature and peak ultimately pivot toward ‘socialism’

west has been implementing ‘socialist’ policies for more than a decade

you can’t stop this momentum without inflicting serious pain on the population - no politician will go there

interestingly as the west begun it’s pivot towards ‘socialism’, the east / china begun embracing elements of ‘capitalism’

The term you're looking for is crony capitalism OP. And no, capitalism & corporate socialism cannot coexist for long, it either ends in revolution due to wealth disparity or a totalitarian kleptocracy like Russia.

There is plenty of Socialist programs in US for one to miss it. Welfare, food stamps, section, Earned Income Credit, etc. Social Security and Medicare are not Socialist programs as the members paid into it. Now, the fact that the US is a capitalist system does not preclude the Federal government from helping when it is most needed. Let us not forget the Federal government mandated that businesses be totally shutdown and to quarantine people. They caused Americans to lose their jobs in their efforts to control Corona Virus. So, why must not the Federal government assist American citizens thru stimulus checks or loans to small business to keep them afloat? That is just common sense in extraordinary times. Did the European Union not aid its businesses, what about China, Japan, etc. Without thriving businesses generating profits, who are you going to tax? Where is the Federal government going to get its monies? How are Americans going to survive? This is not even subject to debate.

We've had record deficits. Have you seen taxes raised?

By the way, all modern economies, even those in Authoritarian States, are a mix of Capitalism and Socialism. The U.S., among the largest nations, remains the country with the largest capitalist component, but it's not doing well at the moment. It is on a path to joining the other nationalist, authoritarian states.

  10. It that good or bad, it depends. Sometime it is even not clear if it’s good. It will show by the time comes.
