I've been tading commodities for a while. I don't use any software I mainly the charts that my brokerage provides. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any software that's good and also affordable. I don't have a whole lot to spend. Thanks
What broker are you with? QuoteTracker can be used for quotes, charting etc: http://www.quotetracker.com/ Software can be used for free, or $60 per year if registered. For the datafeed, you can use your broker if they are supported within QT, or get a subscription like: IQFeed - http://www.quotetracker.com/iqfeed Prophet - http://www.quotetracker.com/Prophet eSignal - http://www.quotetracker.com/eSignal The price for the datafeeds varies depending on the exchanges. For real-time futures with IQFeed for example, it will be $40 + exchange fees per month.
I only trade commodities. I have an ameritrade account. Can I use them for free with my ameritrade account for commodities.
QuoteTracker has full integration with Ameritrade for Level I, Level II, backfill, streaming news as well as integrated trading. However, Ameritrade does not currently trade commodities. What exactly are you referring to?
I understand that, but you said: "I've been tading commodities for a while. I don't use any software I mainly the charts that my brokerage provides. " So when I asked which broker are you using, I meant which broker are you using for trading commodities.
I see. No, QuoteTracker does not work with that one, so you would have to get a subscription datafeed for the commodities data. Note that you can use that together with the Ameritrade datafeed at the same time - same software for tracking both stocks and commodities
AmiBroker is a very good, very versatile charting program and quite reasonably priced. Of course, your datafeed is always an issue, too. There's an excellent Yahoo AmiBroker group that can answer any questions you have, you might want to check it out. H
