Brokers for Korea and Indonesia stocks (foreigner)

Discussion in 'Trading' started by TraderFreedom, Feb 3, 2022.

  1. Does anyone know any reputable brokers with online trading via Android app for South Korea and Indonesia stocks?

[ Please do NOT recommend ETFs or anything listed in USA, that is not what I am asking.
Please do NOT recommend Interactive Brokers as they don't support either market.

I am aware of POEMS and Boom yet their commissions are very high.
PS .. one broker in Indonesia specifies a minimum deposit of 1 million rupiah. Is that correct?

    My specific requirements are:
    - Minimum commissions!
    - Menus in English or at least using Latin alphabet or Russian.
    - Realtime or near real-time data access and fast execution
    - Can open an account without need to be physically in Asia or being a permanent resident there.

No. Your mention of POEMS tells me you are the new subject matter expert on ET with regards to ASEAN Brokerages.

Btw, IBKR website says otherwise. You obviously called to inquire directly, right? Feel free to explain their inconsistency.

  3. I have specifically asked IB and they definitively said no. Their website is incorrect.

Not a surprise. There are many exceptions to what we see in the brochures/website. I think the Singaporean banks have the most offerings for what you want. Next would be UK banks like Standard Chartered.

    Best of luck.

  5. I'd use any broker for Korea market, incl ones based in Korea. Is there any that is foreigner-friendly, ie. Android app with English or any European language menus and real-time data and execution and low commissions?

Strongly suggest you revisit whatever you're planning on doing as you obviously don't know about these markets. Fx is generally a more important consideration than commission and is 150-200bps, and there are other unusual fees. Boom is the best choice in general for non IBKR markets.

  8. Fair point. I am leaning towards opening separate broker accounts directly, both fully in local currency, to avoid unnecessary conversions. Indonesia seems very easy to do. Korea remains incredibly difficult, and I hope someone can recommend a Korean broker with menus in English etc

I trade Indonesian stocks using IPOT (Indo Premier Sekuritas) broker.
    - Fee buy 0.19%
    - Fee sell 0.29%

    *I'm not affiliated with them
