Broker just increased MSTY margin requirement from 30% to 100%

  1. Overnight. Talk about a rug pull...now I have to close some open positions at a loss to deal with the margin call. IBKR has 70% loan value currently so will likely be moving over to them again. I was only dealing with my bank out of convenience but tired of the incompetence.

If they were so concerned why not scale down the loan value over the last 3 months instead of having a knee jerk reaction at the bottom like some retail punters? I mean a bank can't just delete your mortgage because the prices drop lol. It shouldn't even be legal honestly.

I'm surprised they even let you trade.

  5. They're are illiterate when it comes to TA, much like you and @rb7. That's why they are a broker and not a hedge fund lol... :)

Anyway the risk isn't now lol the risk was 3 months ago so just goes to show you how clueless they are...totally ass backwards. They should have scaled down the loan value when we were topping in January, and should be raising it now.

  6. I used it to maximize my MSTY dividends. :)

  7. They were making 9% on my margin loan so their loss. I just adjusted to reduce my exposure...already locked in Ex-dividend date yesterday on MSTY :), any losses incurred will be written off , and probably become a superficial loss as I will be re-entering once I transfer to IBKR...or wiped out by my 100 MSTU Sep19 7 C which is up 5k already. This is more of an annoyance than anything else.

But, seriously how can you even think its acceptable to just unload LV across the board? Maybe it wouldn't matter for your robinhood account lol.

    What This Shows:
    • Brokers still don’t understand how to manage crypto-adjacent assets

    • They lack forward-looking risk models and just react to volatility

    • You’re better off managing your own margin health than trusting a desk

    Metric Dynamic Margin Weighting

    Entry Price / Cost Basis
✅ Better LTV if you’re green
Volatility Adjusted by Ticker ✅ YieldMax ≠ 3x biotech
Portfolio Diversity ✅ Reduced CRA if you’re balanced
Total Leverage Used ✅ Lower borrow = lower risk = better margin
Realized Tax Offsets ✅ Should reduce net exposure risk

Just like I told you guys...dynamic model.

Update: They have now eliminated all LV for any crypto related stocks across the board...what a shit show. IBKR still has 70% LV so I will be moving over to them.

Dude, you're trading a lunch money account in a psycho market during a Trump tantrum. And you're shocked your broker isn't rolling out the red carpet? What did you expect, complimentary champagne with your $237 margin call? Get real. Brokers see you the way airlines see basic economy passengers—barely tolerated, definitely not pampered.

  9. This "psycho market" has nothing to do with anything other than it was time for price to cycle. I even told you guys SPY could go to 640 before a correction, when you all thought 560 was overbought lol. The fact that my broker got caught flat footed shows how unprepared they were, and how they don't understand even basic market principles. They just decided on a whim that they have zero appetite for risk that they completely mismanaged in the first place. This is why I usually avoid trading platforms from banks as they have very low risk tolerance. AND to think I was doing them the favour by keeping my money there...out of convenience for me...the platform itself is terrible but I didn't need all the bells and whistles.

IBKR isn't panicking and haven't made any knee-jerk adjustments.

Ah yes, the majestic Hindsight Prophet enters the forum blessing us mere mortals with wisdom conveniently discovered after the fact. Truly inspiring. Tell us, oh Great Seer of Yesterday, did the charts also whisper lottery numbers to you last night, or just the obvious stuff we all watched happen in real time?

Now go back to your little hindsight shrine where every trade’s a winner after it’s over. Light a candle, hug your loss porn, and whisper sweet nothings like "Yeah, dude, I totally saw that coming." Pffff.
