FBI: No charges against Clinton after new email review

JULIE PACE, LISA LERER and JILL COLVIN,Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — FBI Director James Comey abruptly announced Sunday that a review of newly discovered emails sent or received by Hillary Clinton has not changed his conclusion that the Democrat should not face criminal charges. His announcement came in a letter to congressional lawmakers two days before Election Day.

Comey said the FBI has worked "around the clock to process and review a large number of emails" obtained from a device belonging to Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former congressman and estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin. He said the review has not changed the bureau's assessment from earlier this year that Clinton should not be prosecuted for her handling of classified information at the State Department.

The new review has roiled the presidential campaign in its final days, shattering what had appeared to be Clinton's solid grip on the race and emboldening Republican Donald Trump. During a campaign stop earlier Sunday, Trump warned that Clinton would be under investigation as president, prompting an "unprecedented constitutional crisis."

  2. Few options:

    - Or the CIA ( your service that has offices all over the world, and protects the USA from threats identified from non-US countries) "tipped" the FBI : after all, they sent in their own guy ( Evan McMullin) as "alternative" republican; seeing the timing of his joining the race, it means the CIA has been doing its work worldwide about Trump. Meaning, they have info , but can not disclose, so they put in their guy to give a hint. And the FBI is now siding with the CIA views. Hillary has been CIA vetted, as wife of a president contender, Obama was as son of 2 CIA agents, Bush jr as son of CIA head ( bush snr). Basically , Trump has certainly failed the CIA vetting.

    - Or Comey has been informed and is convinced that even if Trump wins, it will be business as usual ( aka the "shadow" will still be calling the shots, thus Trump has already agreed to further the "shadow agenda") , and he needs to save his head.

    - Or Comey is himself convinced Hillary will win, and he is now trying to save his head.

Based on the standard used on others concerning national security issues she broke the law many times on the email issue. Comey hopes everyone believes that intent is relevant in this, but it is not based on the law. It will be interesting to see what else comes out as time passes. Definitely some high pressure politics being played here.

  6. It was Reince Prebus who got Comey to stand down.

‘I don’t really care’: RNC head Reince Priebus blows off threat that Trump may blame him if he loses

Republican National Committee head Reince Priebus dismissed concerns Sunday morning that GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump may make him the scapegoat should the blustery billionaire lose the election on Tuesday.

After Priebus gave a somewhat upbeat appraisal of Trump’s prospects in the upcoming election, Face The Nation host John Dickerson looked past Tuesday’s election at the potential fallout should Trump not defeat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Taking note of the RNC’s often strained relationship with the new face of the party, the CBS host prodded Preibus about a post-Trump future.

“There have been times in this race when Donald Trump has called out the establishment,” Dickeson said as Priebus interrupted, saying “We’ve had our own arguments.”

“Do you worry if things don’t turn out his way on Tuesday, after all of the work you have done with him, that he might turn around and blame you?” Dickerson asked.

“Listen, it’s politics. I don’t really care,” Priebus replied.

  8. Next time there's an industrial accident where negligence is determined, or next time a drunk driver kills or injures someone, they can use what will be known from this point forward as the Clinton/Comey defense. Yes they were reckless. Yes they were negligent. Yes laws were broken. However there was no premeditated intent, so there will be no charges. Yep, that'll happen.

  9. All this does is add credibility to Trumps claim that the whole f'n system is rigged. His support should go up as a result. Everyone, every single person in America knows this is B.S. Welcome to the Banana Republic of Clintonese formerly known as the United States of America. Orwell couldn't have made this up.
