Brazil Bovespa stock index hits 49,000 for 1st time

    SAO PAULO, April 16 (Reuters) - Brazil's main stock index surged to an all-time high in late afternoon trading on Monday, climbing in line with Wall Street equities markets in a broad-based rally.

    The Bovespa index <.BVSP> index of the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange was up 2.27 percent at 49,014.9, after piercing the 49,000-point threshold for the first time. The Bovespa has surged to series of records in recent months.
