https://www.npr.org/2018/12/01/6725...on-board-wont-certify-north-carolina-house-ra Amid Fraud Allegations, State Election Board Won't Certify North Carolina House Race Enough confusion has clouded a North Carolina congressional race that the state's Board of Elections has announced a delay to certifying Republican Mark Harris' electoral victory over Democrat Dan McCready in the state's 9th district due to "claims of irregularities and fraudulent activities." The Washington Post reported that the State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement has already collected at least six sworn statements from voters in Bladen County alleging that people came to their doors and urged them to hand over their absentee ballots. In one affidavit received by the board, a woman named Emma Shipman said she was visited by a person who claimed to be gathering absentee ballots, WFAE reported. Shipman said she filled out the form while the woman waited outside. "She took the ballot and put it in an envelope and never sealed it or asked me to sign it. Then she left." Collecting absentee ballots by a third party is illegal. But, Shipman said, "Because of the way she presented herself, I thought she was legitimate." The candidates running in North Carolina's 9th Congressional District race took opposing views of the election board's postponement. "I respect today's decision by the bipartisan Board of Elections to delay certification of our election results until a full investigation is completed," Democratic candidate McCready said. He added, "Any effort to rob a person of that right should be met with the full force of justice." watch my shocked face:
Being forced to resign due to criticism by the NC GOP for being “biased” when they are the ones being credibly accused of fraud is absurd.
As noted in the other thread -- you are simply pushing your political agenda which has no basis in fact. The chairman of the North Carolina State Board of Elections clearly broke the law. Even the liberal News & Observer is demanding in today's edition that he be prosecuted for his crimes. Let's take a look at reality... The North Carolina State Board of Elections is so partisan that they could never be trusted by the public to investigate election fraud allegations with any level of integrity. Their past investigations have been partisan shambles and courts have dismissed every single on of their investigation results without exception over the past few years. The State Election Board has no transparency, no meeting minutes, and has failed regularly to comply with court rulings. Due to this every single media outlet in the state without exception has demanded that the entire State Board of Elections be dismissed and a proper entity investigate the election fraud allegations in the 9th district race. The investigation of mail-in ballots in the 9th district race should be done by prosecutors and law enforcement officials in the opinion of most people in our state. All the members of the current state elections board were appointed by Democratic Governor Cooper. The “Republicans” he appointed aren’t really Republicans. Another entity, not the State Board of Elections, should certify the results of the 9th district elections by January 1st. Note that courts have already ordered that the entire state board of elections to be dismissed and removed. In October, a three-judge panel ruled the board unconstitutional. A stay in the ruling that allowed the board to operate as-is is set to expire Monday, December 3rd. As I stated earlier if there is election fraud found involving mail-in ballots in the 9th district IMO those involved should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Note my position regarding election fraud is unwavering - I don't care which party perpetuated it -- it needs to be prosecuted and not ignored.
Is anyone on the board being accused of criminal misconduct? If not, your points are irrelevant, this is the 'witch hunt' arguments Republicans always use when got caught doing illegal shit.
Yes, the chairman has been accused of breaking the law in a complaint. The case is expected to be referred to the Wake County DA this coming week.
You forgot to mention that the complaint was by NC GOP, not the most ethical of the lot given all their electoral tactics. Gerrymandering, voter suppression and now electoral fraud, their complaint about bias is weak sauce considering all that.
The complaint caused: The nearly immediate resignation of the chairman. The Wake County District Attorney (Democrat Nancy “Lorrin” Freeman) to start criminal proceedings. The Democratic governor to demand his resignation. Every single paper in the state demand his resignation as chairman of the state elections board. Most media outlets demand his prosecution for breaking the law. Trying to claim the complaint was without merit is absurd. The actions of the state elections chairman were so damaging to the Democratic party that the Democrats led the charge demanding his resignation and prosecution.
He said he resigned to avoid any perception of bias, it means nothing. And criminal proceedings because of what? Endorsing a fellow Dem? Give me a break, that's worth all your faux outrage? Nobody cares about his resignation, the question is of wide scale fraud to change the outcome of an election which is going to be in news for months.
As outlined in state law no member of the state elections board can make statements (written or oral) supporting or opposing a political candidate or agenda item. He should have followed the law. If there was fraud in an elections then prosecutors and law enforcement should handle the investigation and indictments (if needed) related to the fraud. The state elections board has proven to be completely inept, non-transparent, and incapable of investigating election fraud; this should be handled by proper law enforcement entities which are non-biased.
There is no question there was fraud, compared to that, 'supporting' someone is absolutely timid The Raleigh News & Observer looks at data on mail-in ballots in North Carolina’s 9th congressional district, where there are allegations of improperly collecting mail-in ballots and voters receiving mail-in ballots they did not request. Across the 9th district, 24% of the requested mail-in ballots were unreturned. In Robeson County, 64% of mail-in ballots requested did not make it back to elections officials. In Bladen County, the figure was 40%. The unreturned ballots are disproportionately associated with minority voters. More than 40% of the ballots requested by African Americans and more than 60% of those requested by American Indians did not make it back to elections officials. For white voters, that figure was just 17%. NC Republicans are extremely corrupt, accusing others of bias is laughable after what they have done.
