Nobody cares about you and nobody cares why you left your job. Google and Facebook employees seem to have some kind of god complex.
You will see this your entire career. The miscalculation of one's value and contribution in an organization that people make will stagger you in the long term. If you try to point out to them the futility of falling on their sword they will assign some blame to you. It goes beyond self-importance and its really about toxicity. If you don't like your job quietly find a new job that pays more, give proper notice and don't scorch your former employer on the way out. You aren't going to teach the world a lesson. You aren't going to teach a big corporation a lesson. Shut your mouth, get your bonus and leave. Don't violate your NDAs. Don't badmouth your former company at your new company. Eschew toxic people. I'm human. I have an ego. Occasionally it is necessary to remind myself that no matter how technically dominant I am I can be replaced and after a few months forgotten. Everyone can be replaced. Gotta remember that.
So true. The only problem is that I would work 24/7. Balance eludes me so I oscillate between all work and all play. If a problem is interesting I will pull all nighters coding or whatever. Always admired people who could keep that under control.
