Biden’s Justice Department Throws Support Behind Religious Schools on LGBTQ Discrimination https://www.thedailybeast.com/justi...ind-religious-schools-on-lgbtq-discrimination The Justice Department has offered its full-throated support to religious schools that want to discriminate against LGBTQ students. According to The Washington Post, the Biden administration confirmed in a Tuesday court filing that it will “vigorously” defend a religious exemption from federal civil-rights law that permits religious schools to discriminate against LGBTQ students—even if those schools receive federal funding. The filing said that Education Department and Christian schools “share the same ‘ultimate objective’... namely, to uphold the Religious Exemption as it is currently applied.” The filing has shocked LGBTQ advocates—Paul Carlos Southwick, director of the Religious Exemption Accountability Project, told the Post: “The government is now aligning itself with anti-LGBTQ hate in order to vigorously defend an exemption that everyone knows causes severe harm to LGBTQ students using taxpayer money.” Southwick said the religious exemption leaves students at risk of conversion therapy and expulsion, as well as “shame, fear, anxiety, and loneliness.” Read it at Washington Post
ridiculous, unacceptable and no different than what DeVoss was doing. No wonder his DOJ sought to defend her.
Cannot use taxpayer money to subsidize discrimination. If you are a religious school and don't want to admit any gay students or students of gay parents, then go ahead and do it without taxpayer money. Pence's wife works at a school where you are required to sign an oath to not support any gay people or activities supporting the gay community or be gay...if that is how you want to express your 1st amendment right at a private pay to go to school then you don't need any money from the federal government.
Well not going to deny businesses and politicians are completely opportunistic getting behind the cause de jour when it serves their purpose...
Howz that having Merrick Garland as AG working out for ya? As I said back when you and others were making repetitive posts snickering over the fact that Garland was being recycled - as some sort of get even with republicans routine- that many republicans had no problem with it compared to the alternatives. He was originally nominated by Obama as someone who was lefty but moderate enough to possibly be confirmed by the Senate. The fact that his nomination was not even voted upon does not change Merrick Garland's profile. If there had never been that flap over Garland, he never would have even remotely been considered or named as AG in the rabid, skin-color based, squad, anti-jewish, anti- old white guy environment of now. Whatever. And at the time there were many who were snickering over his appointment because it allegedly would tit him up for appointment to the next opening on the Court. Yeh, right. Bullshiite to that then, and bullshiite to that now. I mean I am okay with it but is insane to think that there is any support for him being on the court from the suicide-bomber wing of the dem party which is in control. Biden's DOJ is also busily dropping or blocking various suits and actions against Trump while president by women alleged to have been assaulted by trump and for actions related Jan 6 and lawsuits asking for release of Barr material leading to the decision to not take action against Trump. Anyway, enjoy.
Wait, you want all of our tax money to be used for gay supportive causes and issues but a few religious schools who choose not to admit gays are not worthy of our tax dollars? Explain please. I am forced to pay my tax dollars for all the causes I cant justify out of my religious conviction. So, I am sure you can move on without heart attack.
Most religious schools do not take any taxpayer money. These are not Charter schools that take taxpayer money -- they are private schools. Unless a state has a voucher program which uses state money to help pay the tuition for a private (religious) school then it is very unlikely that any public funding is flowing to the religious school.
