https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/05/us-...vers-to-expand-access-to-shots-worldwide.html "“This is a global health crisis, and the extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic call for extraordinary measures." Uh no this is not a global health crisis when you have the country that has the largest population in the world having this for new cases and deaths: And the worldwide new cases and deaths like this: are with close to 50% of the new cases and deaths from ONE country, India: So clearly this is not a global health crisis, this is an Indian health crisis despite carefully planned health measures that allowed these: or this: Or this So do we help others despite them making irresponsible mistakes? Of course we do. This is why both Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson have provided their vaccines below cost to India and various 3rd countries to help them overcome the pandemic. But should we lift off the patent protection to let the whole world know the secret sauce of our vaccines that we have spent 10+ years of research and BILLIONS of dollars of investment in obtaining just because of ONE country? And it also begs the question that if it's just ONE country in the world that's having the worst bout of this pandemic, WHY are all the other countries who are struggling but are largely able to keep the pandemic control want to know how to make the vaccine? Lifting off the patent protection of the vaccine is like forcing somebody who's studied hard for the test to open up his answer sheet to everybody to let everybody copy his answers because one student in the class complained that the test is too hard and he's going to fail because he's been partying hard and never bothered to study even though everybody's given weeks to prepare for the test and the studious student even tried to study with him. If you have been this student who's studied hard and worked hard at least once in your life, you will appreciate how unfair it is to you and how discouraged that you became afterwards. Clearly Biden has never been this student that's worked hard. But fear not there are others who have also studied hard: https://www.scmp.com/news/china/sci...rna-vaccine-ready-final-stage-trials-overseas Perhaps that student will be willing to open up his answer sheet to let everybody copy during the test?
Um, not. Covid didn't even do a dent in the human population. What grows by 1% annually. So even if I double the official death numbers to 7 million, that means we didn't get extra humans on Earth for 5 weeks. That is it.
COVID is the crisis of the human being, not the problem limited inside India. If there is one country which can not contain the virus , no other country can go fully to normal, in this sense, I support government asks companies to drop patent protection. The technologies of the patent were largely derived from research funded by nih, ie, public money.
Covid is the crisis of the selfish, irresponsible and ignorant. There is no cure for that. Using the rhetoric "if I don't get better, none of you will be able to enjoy life" to threaten others to share what they have developed with all the efforts and hard work is despicable. You get what you sow. Every action has its consequences. Force the good to not enjoy their reward and yet excuse the bad from paying for what they did is going to have dire consequences for the future. For the next possible pandemic, nobody is going to be willing to put up any efforts to develop any vaccines when they see all their efforts are going to just go to waste on those ones who take their life in strides and we are all going to die for real. I usually sympathize with people who suffer but I don't have one ounce of sympathy for India in this case when we all had to stay in lockdown in various forms for almost 1+ years now, wear masks and practice social distance, not able to visit my family and friends during holidays only to see people in India gathering by the millions with no social distancing, no protection and then expect the world to come to their help when they have done nothing to help themselves? No sorry, India is going to learn its lesson on its own. We are going to just get vaccinated and then go out and live our life while putting India in quarantine until the pandemic situation is under control. The world should set up an army and deploy to India's border and stop anyone who tries to leave. All flights, trains, ships from/to India will be banned. This is what we do when an individual is sick with Covid. They either quarantine themselves in their own residence/room or in the hospital. So why can't we quarantine an entire country? No lifting of patent protection!
You have little. understanding how the world works. Will explain later or somebody else do me a favor of explaining,
i did not say that india should not take the lesson. it has already been punished by the virus. last year, trump also held rally everywhere, to some extent, like what india did recently. but standing by and looking coldly at india people's suffering is another issue, especially the whole world is experiencing the same pain, the only difference is severity. this situation is similar to that when your neighboring house is on fire, should you help him to put out the fire or just standby?
Total bullshit. You will see huge differences in the USA. There is a stupid county in Georgia with 5% vaccination rate, they will see nice outbreaks compared to CA, VT (70+ vac. rate), where they will be back to normal soon. Please educate yourself before you spread manure. Also India refused the American special team, so much for needing help. At one point humans/nations need to grow up and take responsibility for their own stupidity.
Look at those pictures. What is that... the annual sausage festival? I bet there's some "lonely" women over there.
