Biden apologizes for calling Clinton impeachment 'partisan lynching,' but hammers Trump

    I love the internet.

Former Vice President Joe Biden offered an apology late on Tuesday for previously referring to President Clinton's impeachment as a "partisan lynching," just hours after he condemned President Trump for referring to his own impeachment with the same term.

Trump was widely criticized for claiming on Twitter that Republicans are witnessing a "lynching." Several 2020 Democrats piled on the president, including the 2020 frontrunner.

"Impeachment is not 'lynching,' it is part of our Constitution," Biden reacted. "Our country has a dark, shameful history with lynching, and to even think about making this comparison is abhorrent. It's despicable."

However, CNN unearthed an interview Biden did on the network in 1998, where he used the term he blasted Trump for.

"Even if the president should be impeached, history will question whether or not this was a partisan lynching or whether or not it was something that in fact met the standard," then-Sen. Biden told CNN's Wolf Blitzer, "the very high bar that was set by the founders as to what constituted an impeachable offense."

As his unearthed remarks went viral, Biden offered an apology ... but continued to hammer Trump by insisting he "chose his words deliberately."

"This wasn’t the right word to use and I’m sorry about that," Biden tweeted. "Trump on the other hand chose his words deliberately today in his use of the word lynching and continues to stoke racial divides in this country daily."

Biden was one of several Democratic lawmakers who used the term "lynching" in the past, including now-Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y, and Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y.

I didn't hammer Trump for this much as it's just hyperbole for witch hunt for old timers. The media is running with it as it seems they don't want to miss out on this "woke" bandwagon.

  3. I don't blame Joe or anyone else for using the word in the context that he/they used it. I will call him a fucking pussy for giving into the twitter mob and their endless feigned outrage. Lynching today, something else tomorrow. Fuck'em. Is there a politician with the spine to very publicly tell the outrage mob to go fuck themselves? That's who would get my consideration for a vote regardless of party.

Everyone’s opinions are jaded when politics are concerned. If you hate Trump then everything he says is taken in a negative context. Conservatives felt the same way with Obama and saw basically everything he did or said as an offense.

The word “lynching” does not imply racial overtones on its own. And I don’t believe Trump intended it to be.

People are too sensitive today and assume insult when it’s not intended.

I posted a link to it but I don't see it as more than the usual hyperbole. It is common language. I get the trivialising of extrajudicial killings though I don't care. You can't expect much historical sanctity from Trump, the author of the "River of Blood" battle.

  8. Media is (almost) supporting Warren now so they see things differently as needed. They are highly, highly protective of any hit on Joe if it comes from Camp Trump, but if the same hit arises from Warren or Skank they love it.

Same as 2008 when Hillary ran. She could do no wrong because she was just waiting to be coronated. They covered every flaw she had and would not allow any daylight to reach any of her past issues- at least on their networks.

They did that because she was the leftiest one who had a chance of being elected. Then when Obama came along and was seen as the leftier and prettier face that could be elected, they threw her under the bus. Y'all may recall the SNL skit where the media was asking Obama if he needed a cushion and was giving him the softball questions while Hillary sat there getting hammered.

    Seriously.

You think Bill Clinton hasn't said a whole lot worse in a locker room?

I think you missed the point I was making. Or maybe I missed the agreement of my point
