Am doing text-to-speech in alerts. What is the best/most acceptable way to pronounce an option. Let's say TSLA_210604C700 TSLA Call 700 June 4 '21 TSLA 700 June 4 21 Call .. etc I could omit the year if it is current year... Which is the "industry" way?
during my time as an upstairs trader we quoted options as the following CSCO mar 50 call or CSCO jan22 50 call If it were a weekly then we would say CSCO June 4th 50 call And that’s how the OCC symbols are now listed.
Did you say "mar" or "march"? Are you saying that for regular options you didn't say the day but for weeklies you did?
you can do March in a text to speech. We didn’t put the day for regular options because we knew it. You did the day for weeklies because there are many weekly maturities it was how our natural language processor worked when we typed options in for market making purposes. “CSCO mar 50 call 250 for 2.3 vs 45.6” Could be studied within 15 seconds if we wanted to do the trade (at least compared to market and our axes).
(no, in Russian it should be "опцион" (though it sounds awkward)) I know how to do text-to-speech on the word "option". I was asking how to convert something like TSLA_210604C700 to speech (in English) From what newwurldmn said, it probably should be "T S L A June Fourth Seven Hundred Call" Since MS synthesizer does the digits correctly already, will do "T S L A June 4th 700 Call"
Correction: "вариант" ("version" or "variant") is the literal translation of "option", but that's not what's used for "option" in the trading sense. That would be "опция" (or more properly, the plural - "опции" (options).)
ha!! I knew it was wrong. the English word Option has tens of meanings. seems like there are quite a few who know the Russian language.
