Are they covering up Abrego Garcia's death or something?

This is all a bit too weird. Though it seems he has been in contact with lawyers, it's unlikely this was through personal visits so anything could he happening.

President of El Salvador says he won't return mistakenly deported man to U.S.

The Trump administration is also now claiming that Kilmar Abrego Garcia was not deported by mistake, as the Justice Department stated, but was “the right person sent to the right place.”

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele told reporters during a meeting with President Donald Trump on Monday that he would not return a man the Justice Department said it had mistakenly deported to his country.

"How can I return him to the United States? Like if I smuggle him into the United States?" Bukele said, sitting beside Trump in the Oval Office, when asked if he’d return Kilmar Abrego Garcia. "Of course I'm not going to do it. The question is preposterous."

Asked if he’d be released in his own country, he said, “We’re not very fond of releasing terrorists.”

Trump then turned to Bukele and said of the assembled reporters: "They'd love to have a criminal released into our country. These are sick people."

Trump also said he wants Bukele to take in as many criminals "as possible."

??? I guess it just Trump snubbing the courts but it seems off.

US State Department says deported Maryland resident 'alive and secure' in El Salvador

They keep saying this but this but there are differing states of "alive". He left El Salvador to avoid having to join a gang, then dumped into prison with same gangs. Unlikely to be good for health. Perhaps he is too badly beaten for cameras and they are stalling?

Reminiscent of North Korea and Otto Warmbier who died six days after his return having never regained consciousness.

Doesn't seem "off" to me, Trump, or his puppeteers rather, are deliberately testing the Constitution.

I wonder how @notagain and other right-wingers feel about the demise of due process in the United States of America.

Despite what Garcia might or might not be part of, one of the central tenets of life in the US was that everybody has a right to a fair trial.

    Guess what? Not anymore.

This means America has turned (or is turning) into a 3rd world country. No judicial oversight. No regards for the rule of law. I'm serious when I say this.

This type of behavior is absolutely the hallmark of dictatorships.

When I said "US, enjoy your descent into fascism" a few months ago, that was a snarky comment, yes, but we are getting closer to that reality week by week.

  8. American citizens have the right to a fair trial. Fixed that for you. Angry about that? Don't blame me for stating facts. Whether he should have been deported in the fashion he was is another argument altogether.

  9. Don't blame others because you failed civics in high school and choose to remain ignorant. Crack a book buddy! How do you claim to state facts and say something so wrong??? Let the adults handle the law.

Supreme Court disagrees with you... and they are smarter than you:

"The invocation of the AEA is a profound threat to due process. It makes Venezuelan refugees, asylum seekers and those with other legal protections vulnerable to expulsion from the U.S. without any legal process. While legal challenges are ongoing, on April 7, 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court held that before expelling anyone under the AEA, the U.S. Government must let them defend themselves in court. "

    DUE PROCESS

The Due Process Clauses apply to all "natural persons" within the United States, including both citizens and non-citizens. This means that even individuals who are not citizens are entitled to the protections of due process.
