It's been a year since I've been tossing and turning without my own edge, so I recently decided to give DOM my own edge. Are there any traders who use this primarily? What kind of training did you do to make it profitable?
Probably yes, however i don't use it anymore. It's so easy to hide what you want to do these days, with algorithms for example, i feel like the edge the DOM had a long time ago slowly disappeared. However there will be plenty who disagree with me, so there is no one answer for your question, you will have to figure out and discover for yourself if it suits you or not.
Let me tell you this regarding DOM trading. Often it flips within 1 second from bearish to bullish and vice versa. Of course it shows weakness and strength but not possible to profit from as the action is already mostly done when it is to be seen on screen. So for NQ often sometimes it jumps out of nowhere 20 to 50 ticks, when no prior action could be taken, because it was not shown from market depth. So the Nasdaq is too risky to scalp in my opinion. Then I looked also on ES and 6E. It works on 6E when the market is trending for a while, but you get too many fake signals when EURUSD is not trending. So impossible to make money from this indicator alone. It did not help me really here. On ES it is same like NQ but without those massive jumps. In the end all my profit would be eaten from the spread and commission on ES Futures. So it is really not predictive. It shows the action which is good to understand, but the action is already done when you want to enter and you get easily within a few seconds, reverse signals then you close the position. Just after that it again shows a signal in your previous direction and so on. I did not like this Live Dom indicator really. Too many flips out of nowhere. If you just put a trendline on a chart it is much more helpful, as you see the trend from the moving average. But then I do not need your indicators. Same experience I had with a lot of Orderflow and Footprint trading based on Level 1 data. In the end I have it backtested for some months and the profit was very exact to zero. So no profits could be made. As I also could not do it after some weeks of trading a lot on them. I tried many vendors here. For me this Orderflow , Footprint and DOM is just a hype nothing more, if, so not predictive and therefore not profitable for my trading.
Info for newbies: DOM = "Depth of Market" trading ie. depth of the Orderbook, ie. trading Level-2 (and better) See also these intro texts: https://therobusttrader.com/what-is-dom-trading/ https://speculatorseth.medium.com/order-flow-and-dom-trading-for-beginners-92312e9901b7
%% PRObably not many with QQQ; so as you hinted, could be more than one right answer. But as one of 500 or100 things to look @ supply + demand could be one of them; in a very liquid market anyway. Sept sells,[ not an order book with all the cancels LOL], or NOV buys ; worse fill$ in an very liquid market could have some occasional clues .
