Apple Pinning Part 2? Week 7-19-2014 Calls?

Discussion in 'Stocks' started by JesseJamesFinn, Jul 16, 2014.

  1. The action in Pre-Market was the greatest con job to Shorts (High $97.96) did you see how Apple was crushed to it's lowest point right at the Open? Wondering now if they are going to pin Apple to $95 again until earnings prove its worth over $100? The sheer volume of Calls is huge, I promised on this gap up I would dump and I did. The stupid mistake was thinking Intel Tech would tank too. I hope for anyone holding Calls Apple make's a classic Option Ex Spike and you make bank, after Yesterday and Today's action, I dumped.

AAPL wasn't "pinned" last week and it won't be "pinned" this week. With AAPL option strikes so close together AAPL is bound to close very near an option strike. Last weeks close was $95.20 and there was 95.00 and 95.71 calls.

  4. Dear Stock777,

does Apple look like pinning or bad news being priced in the stock? I picked up some $94 and $95 July 25th during the last five minutes of the stock trading. You'ev been around, can you explain why Institutional Investors would pin Apple before earnings? I counted 750,000+ Calls on all the Strike from $90 to $120

    $100.00 198,863

    $99 50,606

    $97 138,283

    $96+$96.43 57,000

    $95ish 73,400 + 41.502

    $92.14 to $94.29 150,000 contracts.

  5. A stock like aapl, widely owned, heavily traded, pins itself.

Won't do much till earnings or Steves resurrection force it to move.

  6. Should have added, 'shoot down a plane' to the list. silly me

A stock will only pin if the market makers are long an outsized amount of gamma near the stock price close to expiry.

In aapl it will be difficult to pin as I suspect the market making community is net short gamma.

  9. Stock777 and newwurld, appreciate your insights so I dumped the stock options when we ran up to $94.8 dumped all my options. The Selling and Option Market said we were not going to move very high. Yesterday with CMG the Options Market priced in a massive move on the Weekly $590 to $620, the premium was huge. Apple's Premium for the $92 to $95 options was too small. NFLX, the Option Market Makers nailed it on the Calls, the Weekly Calls were priced almost exactly what Netflix moved!

Thank's for helping get outside of the Apple's train until we get more clarity, would jump back on this stock if the selling would stop.
