    Hey guys,

Just wondering what papers you took in College/University which helped you the most in your financial/trading career.

I am able to pick and choose papers, but don't want to waste my time doing a very generic paper, would rather zoom in and get what is necessary.

I am aiming to be a portfolio manager within the next 5 years. Currently trade my own account , but am also trying to gain some "Recognised" education.

    Happy NY !

  2. Don't bother, in college they will only teach you the so called Efficient Market Hypothesis (a stupid investment theory that states it is impossible to "beat the market") and that's it.

The rest you will have to figure out for yourself.

So pull out those charts and start "digging", that's the only advice I can give you, because trading is the only business where no one will do your homework for you.

  3. Don't you know

Noobs never EVER take good advice :D

The good advice is just for posterity on sites like these :)

    Awesome advice ,

Thanks xelite, i guess thinking for yourself is the true way to riches ;)

  5. I keep forgetting, shame on me :p

  6. Well, there are hundreds of ways to make money trading but only one way to lose.

Thinking for yourself is a good start, but don't try to re-invent the wheel either, trading does not have to be complicated.

  7. whoa whoa

    EASY THERE

you are giving away the farm here, hellooooo. I got kids to feed.

You can't tell them to K.I.S.S. it.

Instead point them to indicators and suggest mixing RSI with something exotic like exponential wave whatever :D :D

  8. I am going to give you some Really Good Advice as the alcohol and drugs keep me happy.

Get a real degree in a field that you will enjoy working in and screw trading for your education. Trading jobs don’t care about your degree (as long as you have one and a good GPA) and if it does not work out then you have a back-up plan.

As a future trader, run these numbers and stats. Should you A: risk your future on a less than 5% (more like less than 1%) chance of success or B: have a back-up plan just in case you find out that you are not in that 5% or less crowd.

Here is a quick story for you. When I started out as a prop trader I would watch all of these kids just like you come in from Ivy League schools that had a degree in math or some related field. Within a couple of weeks of trading I would watch them cry like babies because they either turned down a job at Goldman or some promising future for trading. But before that happened they all know how great of a trader they were going to be and how easy the series 7 was to pass because they were so smart.

Who are we kidding? Dude, Screw College and take your tuition money so you can open a leveraged account and stop wasting time. You can literally be a millionaire before you would graduate if you start right now!

  9. Well Satan err excuse me...........Satan's helper

    Things are not so simple.

If he gives himself a backdrop, a plan B.

Is he then going to commit 10 000 hours into mastering trading ??

I doubt it, he will simply try for 6 months, lose 30 k, and quit.

Forever losing his chance of being his own boss and making it into top 2% of earners. Having a shitty job all his life.

Bottom line OP, you have now heard all sides. Time to choose.

    FREEDOM, through pain and tears.

OR COMFORT through tried and tested path majority take.

Tough choice, take your time, take your time.

That rings a bell, Satan. I remember the CME pits chew and spit out Ivy leaguers in the 1990s. A number of them went off to become lawyers and computer programmers.

I saw that pattern and said to myself: "screw these odds, I'm going to ny to become an investment banker...LOL.

Sure wish I listened to Uncle Jimmy.
