Texas schoolboy and his clock score Obama visit as authorities defend arrest ‘That is not America. That is not like us,’ says father of 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed, who will visit the White House next month for science fair A 14-year-old Texas boy who was arrested after bringing a homemade clock to school has accepted an invitation to visit the White House as school and city officials insisted they made the right decision when they handcuffed, interrogated and arrested him this week. http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...k-ahmed-mohamed-texas-officials-we-were-right To be fair, it's one of the most suspicious looking clocks I've ever seen.
Ridiculous that teachers and authorities did this to a young kid and couldn't understand the difference between an explosive device and a clock. If the student's name were "Todd", would he have been arrested and accused in the same way?
school district spokeswoman, Lesley Weaver, defended the school’s decision to arrest Ahmed under Texas’s “hoax bomb” statute after an English teacher reported the “suspicious” device A different story if he'd shown his science teacher. I find it funny that even after Obama got involved, the school still maintained his suspension. He's practically been honored by the president, but at the same time is suspended from school! The police said they would have taken the same actions if it had been a white boy.
He actually showed the clock to his science/technology teacher who told him not to take it out the rest of the day. This worked until it beeped in his English class and the teacher contacted the administrators/police.
Of course they'd say that. You don't honestly expect them to go "Well, his name was Mohamed Ahmed. And his suitcase was ticking..."
OK, yes. Ahmed, for his part, wanted to bring the clock to show an engineering teacher. Because it consisted of a board with a digital display and a tiger hologram on the front, the teacher recommended he hide it from the rest of the staff. When it beeped in class another teacher took it away. http://techcrunch.com/2015/09/16/14-year-old-boy-arrested-for-bringing-homemade-clock-to-school/
