Anyone using Excel DDE to connect to TWS?

  1. I can't for the life of me get it to work. Just the sample spreadsheet from IB. Even that won't work.

I have the DdeCocketBridge thingie up and running, it is connected to TWS.

Then I launch the Excel spreadsheet provided by IB and it just throws a error dialog box "Run-time error '57121'; Application-defined or object-defined error"

Win 10 x64. But my copy of Excel is old and 32 bit. Interweb resources say it should not be an issue.

  2. If you try to run an excel add-on and you don't get an error is because you are in some other kind of parallel universe.
Throw that shit in the bin.

  3. Thank you for an err... very helpful reply. Yeah I get it. A lot of people are not able to get it to run, probably you included. But I think it is fair to assume, IB being as big as they are, there are some people that are using this.

I would like to hear from those people how they got this to work

  4. I am sure that I would make it to run, and on top fix any bug that it has. But it is not worth even bothering with it.

Can't you see the amount of "useful" replies that you have had already. Nobody uses that shit

  5. For anyone who cares, I "upgraded" my copy of Office 2007 (yeah I know. It worked great for 16 years, and still does for everything except this one thing. For example, RTD with ThinkOrSwim works err... swimmingly). Installed Office 2021 Pro and IB's bullshit DDE works too now.

  6. 2007? :D:D:D

You should have said that earlier, I would have ignored your post

  7. My apologies :banghead:

I am in the same boat as you. I tried the socket bridge as they suggested and got the error message. The only thing they will tell me is that they no longer support it I am going to try and switch my algos over to RTD as it's similar enough

  9. No it will work fine. RTD is convenient, but DDE supports a much expanded crucial functionality like getting positions and placing orders. What I use:
    • JDK / JRE from https://adoptium.net/. This is just for running the DdeSocketBridge thingie
    • Office 2021 Pro (Same as Office 365 basically, latest version)
    • Win 10 x64
Works out of the box with it

Edit: You have to change client ID of any other software connecting to TWS. If both DdeSocketBridge and that other software (in my case Sierra Chart) uses the same client ID, DdeSocketBridge will drop connection to TWS. Alternatively, you have to change the client ID used by DdeSocketBridge. See the support docs for DdeSocketBridge

    Edit 2: $40 office
