anyone of you guys do earning play

  1. you know earning is on the day after hour or pre hour the next day.

do you trade that stonk that same day and hold it for earning?

if you do, what signal in the chart do you look for during the day to either hold it or get rid of it...or you use a daily chart for earning play?

  2. While I don't trade earnings, I find that whatever it was doing before, it continues a lot of the time afterwards.

For example, if a strong stock is near a bottom, earnings will help it become a bottom. AMZN.

While if a weak stock is near a top, earnings will help it confirm the top. FB.

No, I have never trusted making money through gambling. But I want to risk

  4. I don't do the earnings straddle-plays, etc. However, on occasion if my contracts are about to expire, I'll lay some more even though they over-lap earnings, but thats only because I was planning to do that regardless of what date earnings was.

I use to just buy the recent direction via options but it only works if the IV is small relative to the change in price on earnings day. So it worked well with low volatility stocks but not high vol stocks.

I think buying the direction of the increases/decrease after the the fact is a better strategy.

I bought NKE calls a few days ago and it took 3 days for it to higher and I did pretty well on the April 140 calls. I bought PANW calls on the August 24, 2021 earnings report after the fact and it went from ~$420 to $490 in 3 weeks.

I just bought LULU calls today and so far it is up about 20% but I bet it will continue to rise unless the market pukes again. I also bought puts on RH & CHWY near the open.

Now that Robinhood allows pre-post trading, I think it’s a must for pro trader.

  7. nke, lulu and panw are all on my watchlist. i had nke and lulu for a few years on my watchlist and added panw recently to my watchlist like 6 months ago. i saw nke gap up on last earning and wanted to play lulu yesterday on earning. but didn't cause i got burned by lulu few year ago on earning play. i played mu instead which is also on my watchlist and i got paid with mu after it gap up after hour. bought mu at 81.25 and hold it. and sold it after hour for 86.

all these stonks, i don't randomly pick for earning play. they have been on my watchlist for many weeks, months and years. and then met certain criteria in order for me to play them. i put these stonks on a earning play list for the coming days and weeks and monitor them to see if i'm interested to gamble with them on earning play. earning play is like 50/50 for me so far. it is work on progress for me.

Is it legal to use Robinhood and protrader in the same sentence? :)

I mean with Robinhood traders participating, trading pre/post market should get (more) interesting.

  10. I'm still confused. You meant post-trader or pro-trader?

Trying to imagine a pro-trader using Hood's shitty rinky-dinky buggy app & service, squinting at it on their iPhone, while watching their order-flow getting pawned out. Seriously?
