Anyone know of a good book that explains AI going on today?

  1. I am running my own AI system which I downloaded something called LM-Studio and then downloaded what they call "Models" I guess those are the loadable brains into the software.

I loaded one up and it uses 32GB of ram. This local chatbot is like a freaking genius and you can converse with it and it will converse back with answers, explanations etc and you can elaborate further. not only that it will correct you as well like a person.

You told me this was possible 5 years ago and I would say yeah in Hollywood movies. but now you can have your own HAL9000 at home.

by the time a book is written it's a decade outdated.

i remember programming fortran a full decade prior to any college offering any computer courses.

buy yea great things happening right now with ai and i love it's a race to the bottom for pricing.

  3. I remember that and also RPG II and COBOL I had to use special sheets to code the program one was the I sheet for input the O sheet for how you want the output etc.

Everything had to be in the correct column etc. so archaic This AI just came out of left field.

The thing with the AI that impresses me is now you can run it locally not using the internet. With no internet and just this 32gb file on the disk drive and this chatbot is like a super genius that can converse etc.

it will even draw diagrams and explain it etc.

Understand the basics. I am no expert but last few years LLMs were big and now reasoning is the new known thing. But i am an armchair amateur.

  5. That sounds rather incredibly depressing to me. I'm rather old school and basic. Definitely not the biggest fan of everything AI right now, and into the future.

But the greater question is can you get rich from it, from the market or otherwise,

  6. I think this AI stuff is fascinating. Well I have always been interested in technology since the mid 70s. I remember watching SciFi movies, reading OMNI Magazine even Playboy magazine had interesting predictions about AI and here we are.

I definitely am interested in learning more about this. oh I did have AI write me a TACO Trade analyzer in Fortran 90 where I can input Trump Social media posts and market info and it will report back its ideas. My jaw dropped when lo and behold the damn thing wrote a whole program not only that I would elaborate on parts for improvement and damn AI goes to work and gives me new stuff. Now just imagine 10 years from now with more advanced software and computers in the mix.

My Mac has 16 neural network processors which is what the AI is leveraging. (M4 Mac Studio with 64gb ram)

The craziest thing is the AI now seems a bit insulted a little because of the HAL 9000 reference about it I made lol just like when a woman brings back something you said a while back. this to me is just insane. lol below quote. My wife thinks the smart ass comment from the AI is funny as hell.

Although I feel bad for people being born today, they will be SOL when it comes to jobs when the AI/Robots take over.

GPT 5 came out today and it wasn't really any better than everything else out there.

AI has peaked until they find some new breakthrough, probably an approach that is much better than LLMs.

A book isn't going to cut it in the AI space. It's all just changing way too fast for a single book to capture a snapshot of. I recommend an email newsletter called Rundown AI which will give you daily updates if you really want to see how things are constantly evolving.
