My desktop is quite far from the router (inside a storage), making the wifi reception poor. Looking to try a powerline adaptor such as TP Link AV1000 https://www.toolstation.com/tp-link-av1000-gigabit-powerline-ac-wi-fi-kit/p58255 I have heard mixed reviews, any experience?
I had a very large drop in speed when i used them. I switched to the AMAZON EERO MESH WIFI and it works great. My building has concrete walls so I have these set up in three rooms.
work great if you are on the same circuit breakers. Not so great if you aren’t. better to get routers and hardwire them if that’s an option. I invested in that and it’s been awesome.
I have tried TP-Link PowerLine adapters. Difficult to get the remotes to sync with the master and when they finally worked, the top speed was about 90 MBPS (I have gigabit Internet and router). Switched to using Asus Mesh routers and am quite happy. 800 MBPS WiFi anywhere in my house.
Your powerline adaptor data transfer speed 1000Mbps (rather slow actually) I doubt you can get a powerline adaptor with speed > 2000Mbps. Are you using an antique internet speed? You should be using internet speed > 2000Mbs, and perhaps TPlink Mesh with matching speed.
For what, running your own news broadcast? I have 350mb up and down on Fios. I have a VPN to work running with chrome running and 10 to 15 pages open, two to three trading platforms streaming live data and two to three excel docs open with no issues. No reason to pay for that type of bandwidth
If you don't hardwire (it's easy to set up) I'd suggest mesh over Powerline adapters; it just works better.
You will be always disappointed, WIFI can get so many interruptions on the way that'll drop packages. Get a CAT6 ethernet cable box. At the shop ask for a crimping tool and RJ45 heads. Then you can get your own cable, CAT6 cables come with noise reduction and extra insulation so you can use them in exterior builds. For about $250 you'll have everything setup.
