Hi, Who can tell me the best software/data link to get to do historical end of day testing on the stock market..... I don't need streaming data.... Ease of Use, greater number of indicators, and less cost are all plusses.... I would like one that has built in breadth indicators (such as the percent of sp500 stocks above the 200 day moving average back to 1980) if possible. So, I am thinking that Metastock and Amibroker are two good choices. Thanks! Joel
TradersStudio is the best option and our multicore version will be released within the next 2 weeks. This will run up to 15X faster than the current version on a six core processor. The key in TradersStudio is using CSI data we intelligently handle split and dividends and allow more accurate backtesting. Split adjusted data assumes that you buy the same dollar value of each stock in a basket. If you use TradersStudio you will not have that limitation so for example you can size positions based on a technical stop like a 10 day low.
I am not generating the data , I am using CSI data to do my analysis. You can use just split and unadjusted without dividends but that not accurate. In real life dividends are 1/3 to 1/2 of the total returns of many stocks and ETF's. In terms of EasyLanguage, we have a migration tool to migrate signals (systems) and functions, It's not 100% automated conversion , it's like the VB.Net migration wizard, about 90% automated with some hand code fixing required some of the time.
Go with AmiBroker. I've never used it but it can't be worse than MetaStock which I have used. Every MS indicator formula had to be verified because so many of them were badly programmed.
