    Paul Auster By J.P. O'Malley March 8, 2023

Paul Auster is speaking about a family murder. It happened almost a century ago. In 1919, Auster’s grandmother, Anna, shot his grandfather, Harry, in Wisconsin in the United States. The case was described in court as “justifiable homicide by reason of insanity”.

“My grandmother fired several shots at her estranged husband, two of which entered his body, one in the hip and the other in the neck,” Auster explains from his home in Brooklyn, New York. “So I know all about the dreadful consequences gun violence can have on families, and how it creates [generational trauma].”
