After seeing each company report their cap ex spending it seems they are more into out doing each other on who can spend the most billions to capture this ai trend ....yet none of these companies have any plan in place on how to monetize the hundreds of billions they are spending...

Amazon plans to spend $100 billion this year to capture ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ in AI

From experience, success of an idea depends are many variables. Timing is a key one.

I think they know how to waste money. Or it is some kind of R&D tax write off.

    eh.

tech does a lot of wild catting. If you get it right you make a trillion dollars. If you miss it, you are extinct. What’s 100 billion dollars in that decision tree?

Computing power is critical but clean data to train the AI model equally critical. Garbage in and garbage out. Good variables depend on good data. Asking AI to identify something and AI must have seen something close to it before in order to ID it. Unless, one can access to an already well trained AI to train another model.
A lot of hard works and that cost money.

Like he completely misunderstood how much product AAPL sold in places like China, and posted about he hated Microsoft buying LinkedIn, etc etc. HE DOES NO RESEARCH. All the people who focused on the excesses of the Dot Com bubble failed to see the huge opportunities on the internet that eventually developed ( Google, Amazon, Facebook, even Price.Com ... ) I am absolutely shocked at the money my daughter and a few Canadian peers are making on jobs related to social media. Most of those jobs barely existed 10 years ago. I don't see her worried about anything she prob hit 7 figures income last year and there are a ton of projects she could monotize if she wanted to. AI who knows but Nvidia already has proof of concept the stock may be heady but so were the profits.

But S2007S thinks he has something to say with the usual doomsday themes and how markets are worth shit etc etc.

Much of those investments allowed them to pivot quickly into Ai. Data centers being a primary one. Additionally, their contributions to Ai research through LLM frontier models is quite remarkable.

Data might be the new oil but Ai/ML/LLMs are the wells, pipelines, refineries and distribution network of this abundant, ceaselessly renewable & ever expanding resource.
