Almost got beaten

  1. .. in the slums of Cluj-Napoca.

    Cluj is a former Roman settlement named "Castrum Clus" established about 1900 years ago.

    The settlement they established is about the size of Netherlands. Think of "Clus" as the local "Amsterdam".
     
  2. Not necessarily as a former Communist country, the Hussars ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hussar ) were exceptionally good at beating local peasants to their place, although not always putting the same performance against invading armies.
