    Nasdaq Level 2 market data.

For non-nasdaq, otcmarkets.com has the top five MMs listed for many issues.

Could all of the stocks on NYSE/AMEX/NASDAQ be assumed to have an adequate number of market makers?

An exchange where the issue is listed for trading has a minimum number of MMs requirement.

Therefore, by default, if the exchange uses a definition of "adequate", it would be the bare minimum necessary for acceptable trading operations. A market participant may have more stringent standards and/or requirements than the bare minimum. So to answer your question... no.

"Adequate Number of Market Makers" is just a heading in that article, not exchange terminology.

If we go with your informed opinion and work with your conclusion of "no" to the question "Could all of the stocks on NYSE/AMEX/NASDAQ be assumed to have an adequate number of market makers?", then is there an online source that the unwashed masses can view that ranks or at least discloses the number of market makers associated with stocks on NYSE/AMEX/NASDAQ?

  6. Which MM reveals themselves these days? Multiple ECN switching has made chasing the Ax a dead end. Volume and price are all we got left from 90s day and swinging.

YES, ''adequate'' because average volume + such, is more important than ''# of market makers.'' But i would not consider that one page link '' adequate'' @ all for sing trading[ or swing trading]/LOL:D:D
NO matter the numbers of mm, wide spread options will never have a small bid \ask spread like MSFT, or SPY, specialists............................
And for the stocks with wide bid ask, few mm, good reasons for that.
Good volume points ,on that small sample swing page link.:caution:

  9. Even chasing PINKs and BBs you have to follow time and price because these Goobers will quickly switch between NITE, CDEL or OTCN to avoid getting outed.

"CANSLIM's "I" stands for Institutional sponsorship, which refers to the ownership of the stock by mutual funds, banks and other large institutions, particularly in recent quarters. A quantitative measure here is the Accumulation/Distribution Rating, which is a gauge of institutional activity in a particular stock."

So Institutional sponsorship is gauged by a quantitative measure of the Accumulation/Distribution Rating, which is a gauge of institutional activity in a particular stock.
    Once removed.

If a similar approach is used as a gauge of MM numbers vs "adaquate", and if institutional sponsorship is assumed to provide enough honey do draw MM's in adaquate numbers, then could Accumulation/Distribution Rating be used as a Twice removed proxy for
"Adequate Number of Market Makers" which is listed as a factor in the choice of stocks to invest in. ("How to Pick Stocks for Swing Trading" - https://finance.zacks.com/pick-stocks-swing-trading-11289.html)
    "Adequate Number of Market Makers

Market makers act as a sort of clearinghouse, holding inventories of stocks to facilitate transactions and increase liquidity. They are compensated by a small holding cost per share, which is the difference between a stock’s bid and ask price. Swing traders prefer trading in stocks that are held by at least several market makers, and the more, the better. Market makers leave clues for you to follow and also direct large fund flows that can affect a stock’s momentum, resulting in trends that you can identify and trade on."

In the event, and until, an answer emerges for - Where is this information found?, how else is that question to be satisfied by Swing Traders?
