My accountant of 10+ years closed his business due to health reasons. I'm searching for another accountant, with knowledge of 1256 futures, as well as Trader Status for stock and stock option trading. I had a bad experience with below, including 50% requirement to pre-pay $750, which I will write-off for my stupidity. Below are the contacts: https://www.guru.com/freelancers/derrell-wells https://enterpreneurstartu.wixsite.com/enterpreneurstartups Yes, the spelling of Entrepreneur should have been a warning sign. As with most businesses, others may have better dealings with above, but as usual caveat emptor.
%% NEVER heard of 50% prepay for CPA, so not doing that, @ all . [Prepay IRS, sure do, if i owe them] Prepay for mail order [established co ,money back promise] is common. IF that's you main concern, i've gotten on the phone +asked how much for say, 10 pages small business , federal tax forms. A CPA that cant answer a phone question like that [or yours] gets none of my business.
Thanks. I had problems with GreenTrader, about 20-25 years ago. i don't recall all the details, but they basically messed-up my return, & I had to have it re-done with another firm. 1256 trades are simple, especially with IB, as they provide 1256 form for Irs. The problem is with Trader Status, in my case, for stocks & stock options. That permits stock trading losses to be paired against ordinary income, such as income, salaries, etc. Stock trades then go on Schedule C, "Profit or loss from Business," rather than short/long-term capital gains.
That’s interesting, somebody on here in the states was telling me they were duped too the other day. They said there’s a user on here trolling for tax prep, then taking the work and not paying lol The recession scheming is real idk how it works in the states but here in the islands we pay our version of a CPA all year round
1256 is just one liner, turbo tax can do it. the complexity is in the deductions, 401k contributions , etc. if you are doing it in a business entity.
Those deductions on entities are much steeper than self directed market participants, probably more complex as you say but definitely worth it in my experience
true, my bigger swing futures trades are in a c corp, just for all the perks and cumulative lossess...
Not cheap. CFPs and CPAs. Some partners specialize in MTM & day trading accounting/taxation. Excellent firm imo. I already mentioned, not cheap. https://wcginc.com/
