http://www.elitetrader.com/et/index.php?threads/does-probability-exist.291261/page-8#post-4119305 Hi Baron My understanding (right or wrong) is during the early stage of ET growing , a number of posters were Quality guests who should have been invited by you, I suppose. I think that was a very successful idea! Perhaps this original idea should be revitalized nowadays. A simple way to do it would be two of the five threads of each forum like "Trading" on the front page can be posted only by Quality posters invited by Baron or Moderators. This kind of Value threads can be initially started by anyone. However, whether a Basic thread will be classified/changed/moved as Value thread will be decided anytime by Baron/Moderators. Therefore people then can expect to learn some valuable pointers from Quality posters who could be also happy to exchange ideas in a much rational polite way according to their experiences and knowledge. "Common" posters wanting to ask questions on these Value threads can only communicate with individual Quality posters using "Profile Posts", who then can decide and pass a suitable question from Common posters to the Value thread. Some Common posters after a trial period could be invited by ET as Quality posters. Every poster can post to all threads, including Value and Basic threads. Quality poster could be changed to Common poster if required by ET. Personally I would Not support any outright removal of any ET posters. Simple reason is : Action and Reaction"! Many Valuable and knowledgeable posters have left ET for good - Very Sad! I think I can understand their disappointments, basically! Through this proposed arrangement, ET should be able to maintain many of valuable posters as well as to motivate many inactive Value posters to participate more active discussion from now on. I hope some other posters can provide/ suggest better ideas than this primitive idea.
Good idea .... and lets build on the common and quality poster idea to make things simpler. Common posters would have a special ET rating of 25 points while quality posters would be rated at 75. Baron gets 100 points, mods 90, newbies 10. But members in good standing can trade points with other members to build up a credibility rating which ranks members in reverse order. The rating points, credibility rating and number of posts is then multiplied to get a reliability rating, which is then divided by the number of likes. The final result would then be displayed in the members profile, but only if the sum is equal to or greater than the number of days he has been a member multiplied by the number of posts.
let me guess.. you are a "Quality" poster, and as such grandfathered in ? you think this suggestion encourages new blood?
I remember that some time ago it was once some posters would like even to pay membership fees to ET in order to maintain the quality of posts and posters. http://www.elitetrader.com/et/index...your-real-name-would-you-stick-around.277201/
The problem is not quality posting. Quality posting is a problem because you must pay for it. The problem is that most quit trading long ago for passive investing and the rest try to manipulate some penny stock in social media or find ways to use the social trends. This is an honest forum because most others use robots. You can test that yourself. Someone told me that with 20K followers in Twitter he gets no more than 50 hits when he posts an article. This is what it is and may get better after the Fed stops manipulating stocks and the market bubble bursts. That may take a few years.
HIGHER ME.i'll make you rich(er)but i 20% of all i make, and no downside to me?i loose, you loose all, i win you take 80%? DEAL?
That would limit the potential of learning new things hugely. Two people start a private conversation, so nobody else knows about this. Which means that from that moment on nobody can join. So the possibility that very interesting , experienced or smart people can give good input is nihil once the private thread started. The possibility to learn new things will be limited to the knowledge of the two participants and be only available for these two. Many times interesting things are posted when a thread is already running some time, all this you will miss in private threads because by then it will already be private a long time. I receive regularly PM’s and tell them that I prefer to post in a public thread. If not I receive 20 times the same question and should answer each one seperately. It means a full time job.
