Selling symptoms to suggestible people has been a gold mine for Big Pharma since it started advertising directly to the consumer almost in the late 1990s. Thanks to such marketing which actually "sells" diseases to build demand, millions of people who were once fine now have season allergies, GERD and assorted attention, pain and spectrum disorders.

That's not to discount genuine suffering. But for many people, the embrace of prescription drugs is best expressed in the T shirt that says “I take aspirin for the headache caused by the Zyrtec I take for the hayfever I got from Relenza for the uneasy stomach from the Ritalin I take for the short attention span caused by the Scopoderm I take for the motion sickness I got from the Lomotil I take for the diarrhea caused by the Xenical for the uncontrolled weight gain from the Paxil I take for the anxiety from Zocor I take for my high cholesterol because exercise, a good diet and regular chiropractic care are just too much trouble.” link

  3. All you need to do is look where the money is spent. They spend more money on advertising than research, and they do so by a wide margin. A neurotic population just waiting for a pill to make it all go away is eager to buy. Big pharma is almost as harmful to Americans as the banking industry. Almost, and a greedy government all too willing to take the campaign money from both while endorsing the scam(s).

yes, those right wing republicans, they are so "suggestive." Good thing for elite democrats to decide what drugs people should take. And it's getting out of hand. People in Colorado are just smoking drugs whenever they want to.

  5. You people might have a different opinion if your life depended on one of those drugs evil big pharma developed. Why do you thonk life spans have increased so dramatically? Better diets? Give me a break. Drugs are far cheaper than the alternatives of hospital care, operations and death.

No doubt some people should take better care of themselves instead of taking drugs, but there are millions who would be dead without these new drugs.

Hygiene, for one. Knowledge of bacteria and how they work for another. Ditto viruses.

  7. I don't think anyone is referring to the standard medication which can be and is helpful. It's all the pills to put people in a fog. Can't sleep? We got a pill. Can't wake up? We got a pill. Feeling down? We got a pill. Feeling too up? We got a pill. Sad? We got a pill. Too happy? We got a pill. They have convinced millions of people that they should have no emotional response to anything. Just get numb to it all, and they're making billions doing it while ruining lives for millions of people.
