Why was it again that, as President Obama said, “we tortured some folks” after the 9/11 attacks? Oh, right, because we were terrified. Because everyone knows that being afraid gives you moral license to do whatever you need to do to keep yourself safe. That’s why we don’t shame or punish those who were too scared to imagine doing anything else. We honor and revere them.

Back in August 2014, Obama explained the urge of the top figures in the Bush administration to torture “some folks” this way: “I understand why it happened. I think it’s important, when we look back, to recall how afraid people were when the twin towers fell.” So naturally, in those panicked days, the people in charge had little choice but to order the waterboarding, wall-slamming, and rectal rehydration of whatever possible terrorists(andinnocents) the CIA got their hands on. That’s what fear drives you to do and don’t forget, at the time even some mainstream liberal columnists werecalling for torture. And whatever you do, don’t forget as well that they were so, so afraid. That’s why, says the president, “It’s important for us not to feel too sanctimonious,” too quick to judge the people in the Bush administration, the CIA, and even the U.S. military who planned, implemented, and justified torture. more . . .

You do realize that the Obama administration carried on the exact same policies regarding "torture" as the Bush administration, eh?

Why is it you righties think that fact has any place in these narratives?

  4. Obama has killed hundreds of civilians via drone attacks but waterboarding a few terrorists is a moral outrage.

Obama and Bush are both Nazis.

Except Obama was awarded the Noble Nobel Peace Prize which makes him a good Nazi.

The world government sock puppet Obama ordered the military to kill 3 three U.S. citizens who were not engaged in combat against US forces. And the military obeyed these orders, a clear violation of the due process clause of the fifth amendment. And after they were killed a lawsuit against the Obama administration for their killing was dismissed by the federal judge Rosemary Collyer, another world government sock puppet.

Nazi war criminals and members of the Mafia are captured and given a fair trial. So what kind of America is it where Nazis and the Mafia get better treatment than U.S. citizens ?

Does any one out there still doubt that Obama is a world government sock puppet just like Bush ?

    Hello Banjo:

Thanks for the article reference. Joseph Stuber starts out going in the right direction pointing out people responsible for the mess we are in but then goes off on a Keynesian economics tangent in his analysis, saying

“The root problem has to do with an imbalance between the capitalists and the working class

Two things matter if we are to achieve sustainable organic economic growth - an expansion in the supply of money and an increase in the rate at which it is being spent (money velocity). The sad truth is those in the group Rockefeller spoke of back in 1991 have pressed their own advantage so successfully and achieved control over our economic systems to such a degree that they have created a huge imbalance between the working class and those who employ them.

It is not that fiscal and monetary policy has created the problem. To the contrary, high debt levels, at least in the US, as a provider of the world's reserve currency, makes sense. So does QE. The idea that our massive increase in debt levels in the US was ill advised is simply wrong. At the onset of the Great Recession, we needed to spur GDP growth and moving back to the equation - GDP = M2 X M2 velocity - one of the ways to spur growth was to increase money supply.”

    ….............................................................................................................................

So in short central bankers creating money out of thin air to stimulate the economy makes sense to him, then he quotes some one named Roubini who commented:

“Simply put, we live in a world in which there is too much supply and too little demand. The result is persistent disinflationary, if not deflationary, pressure, despite aggressive monetary easing.”

    ….............................................................................................................................

    Next Stuber says:

“Roubini is right on all points. He is right that we are clearly struggling mightily to avoid a deflationary spiral, but I see no way we can avoid it...”

    ….............................................................................................................................

The Keynesian manipulations of the economy has created the problem he is trying to analyse and unfortunately he can only see the problem through a Keynesian lens. Keynesian economics is the weapon of choice of the central banks. So using fire to put out a fire is not going to work, to put it one way.

    ….............................................................................................................................

The below article gives a good description of the foolishness of quantitative easing aka printing money. It has a great line in the article I like which is

“If printing money could somehow generate wealth then world wide poverty would have been eliminated by now. ”
