42% national sales tax? Yep that would work, hilarious!

I vaguely remember Bernie talking about a "modest 4% increase" in personal income tax to support national healthcare. I pay probably closer to 6-8% of my income so 4% is actually a significant improvement over the garbage private stuff we have now.

However, this article makes it sound bad:

This would never work. In fact, these numbers seem entirely fictional. This entire thing reads like a Republican hit piece. Whatever happened to good journalism? Where are the citations to speeches from these Democrats?

It would be nice if ole Ricky Newman wasn't an RNC shill and actually wrote something that resembled journalism.

It's like , guys, you should start doing something about inheritance taxes instead of attacking small business & creating fairy tales about universal income.

People would pretty much stop buying anything discretionary.

Its a VAT, they still want a VAT. Libs never let go of something potentially that destructive.

I just skimmed the thread title, thinking it was some top tier income tax rate, wtf!

A 42% tax would increase prices on food, medicine, doctors with private practices, car repairs, etc. We would all be bankrupt in a Socialist State! Of course, those at the top like Pocahontas Warren will be beating the tom toms celebrating being a billionaire, and owning everything the state owns in assets! The rest of us get squat and equal misery and poverty!

The reason why I posted this is because it's never ever ever going to happen. Its totally hilarious to even fathom such a thing. I put it out there for a good laugh.

Currently groceries and clothing are essentially tax free, wonder if this changes that or not.

They should be, Oklahoma, sad to say, is one of the few states that tax groceries. They do have a tax-free day/weekend just before school starts for school supplies and clothing.

I would be in favor of a VAT over income, but I'm not naive enough to believe they’d stop there - we’d have both before long.
