4 monitors on laptop - is it possible?

Can I connect 3 or 4 monitors to notebook? if Yes, then How?

any similar products to matrox and sidecar but cheaper?

 

Seems to me that the Matrox is a steal compared to the SideCar. I have done countless searches time and time again for this, and these seems to be the only two out there?
