“The Tariff will gradually increase until the Illegal Immigration problem is remedied,” Trump said in his tweet, adding that ”....at which time the Tariffs will be removed.”

The White House confirmed in a statement that the 5% tariff on all Mexican imports will take effect on June 10, and added: “If the illegal migration crisis is alleviated through effective actions taken by Mexico, to be determined in our sole discretion and judgment, the Tariffs will be removed. If the crisis persists, however, the Tariffs will be raised to 10 percent on July 1, 2019.”

In addition, if Mexico does not take dramatic action to reduce or eliminate the number of illegal aliens crossing its territory into the U.S., “Tariffs will be increased to 15 percent on August 1, 2019, to 20 percent on September 1, 2019, and to 25 percent on October 1, 2019,” the White House added.

“Tariffs will permanently remain at the 25 percent level unless and until Mexico substantially stops the illegal inflow of aliens coming through its territory.”

    and the problem is?

if you are short you just made money... if you are long term like I am - I just got a discount if I buy tomorrow...

actually if the futures opens like this in the morning it's a no brainer buy.

So he's blaming Mexico (half-way lawless, and on our border) for the complete breakdown in civil society off of *their* southern borders. Fucking brilliant, and a sure way to make friends and influence people -- OR a sure way to ruin Mexico completely, insuring the Western Hemisphere goes mostly back to the Stone Age. ((OR, becomes fodder for infiltration by Russia {"Can you say, "Venezuela?"} or China, who'd both like nothing more than to give us a *real* problem to worry about. Monroe Doctrine be damned -- that's why China is giving us the big F-U on the Spratleys. {"Unsinkable aircraft carriers, a 1-tank flight from their shore}))

Lol, nobody in the history of humanity has ever solved illegal immigration? Tell that to Japan, Israel, and Australia, among others.

As to Trump's strategy, it's definitely aggressive, risky, and unorthodox. It's also very likely to work, if he follows through. Definitely has logic to it since he's been totally boxed in when it comes to the border crisis, by Congress and the judiciary. Looking forward to the volatility this will cause.

  9. I thought there is a trade agreement between U.S and Mexico called NAFTA? What's the point of having a trade agreement when one side can arbitrarily impose tariffs? Does this trade agreement carry no legal effect? Wouldn't U.S lose trust among friends and potential friends? Who will dare do business with an entity who does not keep to his promises and agreements? This may impact negatively U.S business interests and the stock indices going forward.

  10. Companies are moving back to the US from Mexico folks. Trump plays the long-term game.
